I heard a sermon preached by Dr. StClaire, on the sub ject, ‘’There is no difierence,” and It was so good and inter esting to those who beard it, that it was published in book form, and it has been read by many who had not the pleasure of bearing the Dr. deliver that beautiful dis course and to see bow the Dr. moves about when he Is mix ing the sop of Ga. and the dipofN. Th** perseverance of the saints consists in the unlimit ed capacity of beginning ovi 'gaol- down to his house more justified than the other man Do you really think that a set of men and women as well read in the old law and prophets as the Pharisee was, who bad been taugh by the best teachers, could have been so bUnd to the difference of the true and false religion, and to the service of man and the service of God, as they were? Don't it look to you like reason and common sense would have taught them better? Pnarisee, nor and extremist either one, have but very lit tle if any reason about religi on. Paul said he was one time a strict Pharisee, and when he was persecuting the church of Christ, be thought be was doing God’s service. “Oa, well,” says one, “Paul was not converted, be was not sanctified, he had not b' n baptizid with the Holy Ghost and fare, he had never received the penticost, the second work of grace was not complete in him That is right, I am sure he had never bad all that, neitb- bad the first work of grace been pompleted in him, if it nad he would not have persecut ed the church as be did, neither will any other man who has a part, or, all of the above mentioned gifts, is not going to persecute believers in Christ, preach, talk and act in church so as to cause divi sion, and pull down one church to build up another, as some who claim to have those gifts are doing. When reason and common sense falls to guide a man, the Bible to some extent fails too. When Peter was sinking be neath the waves he cried. Lord save, I perish,” and the good Lord stretched forth his hand and took him to himself. So, like wise he bears and saves all that call on him. When the thief was on the cross, and asked to bereroem bered at a certain time. Christ didn’t take out his little book, take down his name, to see what he could do about his salvation at some future time, but bean swered quickly, “This day shall thou be with me in Paradise, There was no diffirenoe in the crosses on which the men were hanging; but there was a vast difLrence betJveenthe two men, and causes of their deaths, The thief states the diffirence in the three men in his own words, for he said. ‘'We are all under the same condemnation, we are guilty, but this man Jesus is inno cent. W’e are sure that some how and some where this thief bad caught on to the real cause of Christ's death. The question here arises, why were not both of these thieves saved? They were both siuners equally guilty, both under the same condem nation. Was not the Lord willing and able to save them both? Yes, the good Lord willeth the death of none, but rather that they would repent, and come totheknow- ledge of the truth. In the plan of salvation, we find that he thatdoubteth is already damned. He that com'itb to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder cf those who dilll- gently seek him. therefore it 13 written, “seek and ye shall find.” “No differerce,” it is you the Lord is talking to, not the other fellow, we will sug gest that the names of the I two fellows were, John and Johndidnot believe Injesus, he did not seek him, or ask of him mercy, neither did he knock at the door of hope, therefore, seeking nothing in Christ, found nothing in him, be received nothing from him. By not knowing, he did not gain admittance into the kingdom. Peter repented and preached repentance to his comrads, confessed bis sins, believed in Jesus as the Savior of the word, and a special Savior to those who believed in him. He looked upon Jesus in the dying hour, sought his friendly hand and received it. He anxiously knocked and the door of hope was opened to him, when the words of Jesus fell on his attentive ear, “This day shalt thou be with me in Paradise.” L. T. Phillips. FROU PLEASANT HILL. Let me say to yon thatalPeter Please allow me to say a few words about our meeting at Pleasant Hill P'.W. Baptist church last Saturday and Sunday, February 10 and 11, which was our regular meet ingdays. Owing to the rain only a few gathered at the church Saturday, but those that did go reported a good meeting. Rev. N II. Parish was there and joined the churijji by letter. Bro Parish was with us o"‘ 'a’ meeting last suniuiLi ,..i -c much good here. He has made many friends for the Free Will Baptist here and everywhere he goes. I have told you read ers of the Baptist before of Bro Parish traveling and running tent meetings in the interest of the P'ree Will Bap tist, He is a good preacher and is alive for our Zion. He is now a minister of the Geor gia Union Free Will Baptist Association, he came from Marietta church of the South Georgia Free Wbll Baptist As sociation to us with his let ters of recommendation and also credentials showing he was a member and minister of said church and .Associa tion and of course Pleasant Hill chuich of the Georgia Un ion Free Will Baptist Associa tion gladly received him and the whole church was glad to praise the Lord for such a member and we feel like he will be a strength to the As sociation and a blessing to the church. Sunday was a bitter cold day but a few of us met and bad another good service. The Lord was with us and made us to rtj )lce one with another in his service. Our pastor, F!d, E. - W. Wright turned over the ser vice to Bro. Parish Sunday for him to conduct as he saw fit. He had song service and several prayers by the young brethren of the church which was soul stirridgtoanyChris- tian and then he preached a lovely sermon from St.John 2nd chapter which we all en joyed. Thus closed another meeting. I will close by saying pray for us as a church and me as an individual. Yours in hope of heaven, Ida Davidson, Pine View, Georgia, “Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pastures, saith the Lord.” For ye know, that the grace of our Lord Je sus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor that ye through his poverty might be come rich. And Jesus said unto them, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of man hath rot where to lay bis head.” I counsel thee, buy of tee gold, tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich, and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear and annoint thine eyes with eye salve that thou mayest see. Herein is my advice for this is expedient for you, who have begun before, not only to do, but also to 'oe fore warned. Now, therefore per form the doing of it, that, as there was a readiness to will? so there may be a perform arce. To do good and to communicate forget not, for with such sacrifices, God is well pleased. if these be first, a willing r -ifilt is accepted according t )tiat a man hath and not '^rding totbathehath not. cf p. truth, I say ^ vou, ‘.bat this poor wid- H?-th cast in more than i’-'"v all, for I mean not that other men be eased andiDtb- e-s burdened but, byanequal- itv that now at this time, yourabundance may beasup- ply for their wants, that their supply and their abundance, also may be a supply tquallv as it is written, he that hath much, bad gathered much, had nothing over and he had gathered little, bad no lack, but, thanks be to God which put the same earnest care in to their hearts for you. We have sent the brother whose praise is in the Gospel, throughout all the churches, and not that only, but who was also chosen of the church Jo travel with us. this grace which is administered by us, to the glory of the same Lord and declaration of your ready mind. Our brethren be inquired of, they are the messengers of the chare J, and the glory of Christ, wherefore, show ye to them, and before the church the proof of your love and of our boasting on your behalf. Now, I beseech you breth ren, mark them which cause division and ofiense contra ry to the doctrine which ye have learned, and avoid them. But, my God shall supply all your needs according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus, for they that are such, serve our Lord Jesus Christ. Written by a brother dea con in the church. J, H.
