MEMO FROM VERNE STANFORD Vi >«i;4 .X ''' ' By now I believe everyone is aware that I've informed the Board of Trustees of my resignation and plan to leave my postition as Director as soon as they locate someone to take my place. Penland School has enjoyed a close and mutually produc tive relationship with many of you and I'll only add here that I've appreciated your confidence, help and loyalty. Joy and I thank each of you most sincerely. I know we'll all continue to share a profound loyalty to those ideals that form the foundation for the school's operations. The Penland Line itself is a small manifestation of that spirited and productive relationship between the Community and the School. It seems appropri ate now for me to use it to tell everyone on a very personal level that it's sad to be leaving so many close friends and how proud I am of what we've all been able to do for the place in these last few years. I'll use "The Line" to keep everyone posted on my new plans. Take care of our school. 1) Joy & Verne at Penland Post Office. 2) Joy & Verne with sons Jason, Aaron, Jonah and Penland Fellows. 3) With Penland Staff, Fellows & Residents. 4) Playing Volleyball. 5) Hunter Kariher, Assistant Director, & Verne. 6) With Board Members Harvey Littleton & Mark Peiser. 7) With Board Members Doug Lewis & Paul Welder. 8) Board Meeting at the Stanford's house. - ^ ¥ PENLAND SCHOOL PENLAND; NORTH CAROLINA 28765 704-765-2359
