NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION US POSTAGE PAID PENL.AND, NC PERMIT #1 P E N L A N D LINE PENLAND SCHOOL OF CRAFTS • PENLAND NC 28765 • MARCH 1990 PENLANDGOES TO BALTIMORE ' I ! I The work of the residents and studio coordinators was featured in a Penland exhibit as a part of the New Talent Showcase at the ACC Fair in Baltimore Febru ary 27th-March 4. The 10' x 20' booth was originally designed and built by Lauren McDermott and modified and expanded by Randy Shull assisted by the other residents. ( Over 100 of Penland's neighbors and friends came to a pireview at Ridgeway before the booth and the pieces were loaded into three vehicles for transport to Baltimore. Exhibitors included Rick Eckert, Judson Guerard, Yoko Higuchi, Marvin Jensen, Bart Hasten, Alicia Keshishian, Jane LeFevre, Pam Rockwell, Sally Rogers, and Randy Shull. The exhibit was designed to showcase both the work of the residents and coordi nators and Penland's program. Over 30,000 people attended the Fair and the traffic through the booth was steady. Many of those who visited the exhibit stayed on to ask questions about Penland or to reminisce. About 1,000 catalogs were distributed and 150 names added to the mailing list. As for the work, both the individual pieces and the exhibit as a whole got very favorable comment from everyone. The agreement concerning this particular part of the ACC Fair is that all of the work remains as an exhibit until the con clusion of the event. Pieces could be sold at the end or orders taken. Almost ev eryone left with some orders and many of the pieces in the exhibit were sold by the end of the day on Sunday. Rick, Jud, Bart, Alicia, Yoko, Sally and Randy all attended the Fair for some part of the time along with Alana Barkley and Donna Jean Dreyer, who split the time and took responsibility for talking with those who were interested in Penland. In addition to learning a lot about the mechanics of participating in such a large event, everyone had a good time plus the chance to sample some of Baltimore's famous restaurants. EASTER BRUNCH Once again Penland will host a Pot Luck Brunch and Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday, April 15 at 11:00. Penland will provide eggs and ham. Everyone should bring an egg (in whatever medium you choose) for the hunt plus a dish which will serve ten people for the brunch. If you plan to attend, please call Pat Thibodeaux by April 10th. Ml
