Each year, these auctions raise more than $30,000 for our schol arship programs. The Pines Northlight Northlight Northlight Northlight Northlight Northlight The Pines Annual Benefit Auction, August 8-9 The 2003 benefit auction takes place on August 8 and 9.The auction is a festive weekend of art, food, music, and fun. It’s a chance to visit the school and to meet some of the artists who make Penland’s programs so special. More than one hundred current and former instructors and resident artists donate functional, sculptural, and two-dimensional work. Proceeds help support Penland’s programs and studios. Admission: weekend, $300; Saturday only, $200; Friday only, $ 100. Different Directions from a Common Point: Summer 2003 Textiles Instructors March 11 — April 27 Reception: March 14, 7 - 9 pm Artists from The Penland Book of Ceramics: Master Classes in Ceramic Techniques Work by the ten ceramic artists who wrote chapters for this new book published by Lark Books. November 4 — December 14 Reception: November 7, 7 - 9 pm Community Open House Saturday, March 1 Each year on the first Saturday in March, the Penland stu dios are open to the public for hands-on workshops and demonstrations in clay, glass, iron, metals, photo, textiles, and more. It’s an afternoon of experimentation, creativity, and fun. No charge; all ages are welcome, i - 3 pm Community Education Showcase Saturday, December 6 Penland’s Community Education Program will hold an open house to exhibit work by Mitchell County students and to offer a hands-on experience for the entire family. The work on display comes from Penland’s Hands-On Learning pro gram, a series of art classes offered to our local school sys tem. 10 AM — 3 PM at Ridgeway Hall.
