On M ay new price ceilings were establish ed on eggs, poultry, butter and pork, rhesc all affect farm fam ily sales and should be investigat ed. If you do not have prices see you ration board or Mr. Btuce of the Soil Conservation Division who represents the War Board in meat rationing. This is important as you must stay within the set pric es. New Regulations on Selling Ra tioned Foods by Farmers— All farm families who sell butter and meats must keep a record of the amount sold and collect the requir ed number of points. At the end of each month you must turn m your record and collected points to the local ration board. Ration points are collected from retail ers and institutions as well as consumers. Yes, it is a big bother but has to he done for the good of all. Someday we hope the war will be over, but in the meantime if you are in doubt about procedure ask someone who knows. Sugar for Canning—Sugar for canning may be gotten now by applying t.v youi local ration board. When you go to make your application take with you all the family Ration Books No. 3, a list of the number of quarts of fruits canned last year, number of qts. of vegetables canned last year and the number you now have on hand. Also take an estimation of the canning that you expect to do this year of both fruits and vegetables. This information com piled in advance will help both you and the Ration Board. Remember that strawberries are now on hand and blackberries and huckleberries will soon be ready. We advise saving all these that is possible as orchards fruits will be extremely short. Be prepared to can Rhe berries when they are ready is only a good business pol icy. Fats for Defense--It seems that there has been some trouble with disposing of the fats that has been salvaged. Housewives should turn in fats to local groceries. Grocer men in turn may dispose of fats to the North Carolina Consoli dated Hide Company. Inc., Golds boro. North Carolina. AH the gro cerman has to do is to write to the above company and tlv’v will send a truck by to pick up his stock of Defense Fat. Salvaging fat is becoming more and more important for munitions. No faction of good fat sh mid be allowed to waste. We should all work together to help in this way. As reserve supplies of fats are used the production and salvaging greases take on more signifi cance. 4-H Church Sunday--.! 4-11 Church Sunday Program was held in the Weldon Baptist Church on Sunday, May 16th. with twenty nine 4-H girls participating. The service was opened with an organ prelude rendered by the church organist. Mrs. \. J. Shep herd, followed by a processional of 4-H girls all dressed ii white and wearing white roses. The eleven girls on the program all wore their 4-H Club Uniform. “A Country Girl’s Creed” was given by Mu riel Warren of Weldon. Peggy Suiter of Garysburg read the scrip ture which was followed by the 1 H Club “Song of The Open Coun try.” Elizabeth Joyner of Garys burg led in prayer. Alice Joyner, Susan Shepherd and Blanche Sol don sang a trio. “The Lord is My Shepherd.” The 4-H Club Pledge was given by the club members. Rev. W. W. Finlatov, Pastor of the Weldon Baptist Church, pis ached a most inspiring" sermon on "Lost and Found in the Church. ' The Benediction was given by Peggy Draper with a response from the choir. ..1 f* Ushers for the service were: Tnez Hamilton, Ann Turner, Betty Ann Shaw and Betty Lee Ward. Halifax County War Board The farmers of Halifax County will be interested in knowing tome thing about recent rulings of Of fice of Price Administration con cerning keeping of records and the turning in of red stamps in connection with the sale of meat products, butter and cheeses. According to our latest instruct ions. farmers making sales in this county will lie required to turn .r. a report of their total sales to ; gether with the red ratining points to the local Office of Price Ad ministration at the end of a re porting period which may be chosen as to length of such period by the farmer. Such reporting per iods should not run over 4 or 5 ’ weeks making it necessary that 12 1 reports be made a year. The War (Continued on back page)
