Japan Agrees To Receive And Deliver Packages To War Prisoners In Japan Good news lots come from the Pacilio area to those who have relatives interned in the Far East. •Ja|>n has agreed to receive and dis tribute, with the help of Swiss representatives, Prisoner of War Packages and medical supplies to both military and civilian intern es. Through the offices of the Swiss government an arrangement has been worked out whereby such materia’ can be shipped to ’’us sian Pacific putts, by the L't.,.ed States where it will be picked up by Japanese vessels and carried to the interment camps. The actual distribution of such packages and mail will be in the hands of Swiss representatives, thereby guaran teeing that they reach the party for whom they are intended. Russia hits made aaviluble a number id’ ports both to the U nited States and to the Japanese and has offered trans-shipment o goods overland if so desired. Relief supplies valued at appro ximately $2,000,000 are now wait housed at Vladivostok. Food, med icine and clothing constitute the main items awaiting trans-ship ment to the United States and Al lied prisoners of war and civilian interns held by Japan. Substantial reserves of food packages are now available and together with | $250,000 worth of medical supplies are being shipped form this coun try. The only supplies that have reached prisoners in Japan have been carried by the echange ship Gripsholm on its two trips. Now there is assurance that regulai shipments will be made and the meager diet given prisoners in Japan will be considerably aug mented by food packages. Those having relatives in the custo iy of Japan need do nothing to insure packages reaching them. This
