Our Neighbors Speak
Do you believe beer commercials should be included in college basketball
telecasts?
ROBERT APONTE
PRESTON
No, I know that some colleges
like the money, but the commer
cials might get young kids to
drink beer, and I don’t think
that's good.
GUSTAVO FERNANDEZ
PRESTON
Yes, as long as beer is a legal
product, I think they should be
allowed to advertise it.
NANCY BARNES
MORRISVILLE
I think that ads are usually so
clever, they’re entertaining and
college age students, as far as
I’m concerned, are adults and
need to make their own deci
sions.
JANE ROCKWELL
MORRISVILLE
Not necessarily. I think the kids
today have enough influences
on their lives. It (beer) is another
addiction they don’t need.
RACHEL STULL
PRESTON
No, our kids have enough
temptations and peer pressure
that I don’t think they need a
commercial to encourage them
anymore.
FAYE BAKER
MORRISVILLE
Since I’m opposed to alcohol to
begin with, I don’t agree wfth it. I
don’t think small children should
be more susceptible to it
through advertising.
TEENCO production a hit with young audience
By Roxanne Powers
The night that TEENCO came to
ftestonwood Country Club to per
form an improvisational play will
not be quickly forgotten...by the
little kids or the big ones who
pretended to be their parents in or
der to gain admittance.
The TEENCO group, sponsored
by the Raleigh Parks and Recrea
tion Department, is made up of
Wake County teens in grades nine
through twelve, and is directed by
Sue Scarborough. Four of the six
who performed at Prestonwood on
March 8 are Millbrook High stu
dents. They are Richard Brown,
Matt Mansfield, Leah-Shawn Moye
and Jennie Stephens. The other
two, Ben Tomczak and Cary resi
dent Eric Kuehnemann, are Enloe
Hi^ students.
TEENCO delighted the gathering
at Prestonwood’s first Kids’ Dinner
The^. From the beginning, the
students involved the audience in
the production by collecting sounds
from children in attendance. Back
on stage, the TEENCO members
formed into a "noisy machine,"
where each coordinated movements
with the noise he or she had col
lected.
When asked for her opinion of
the production, six-year-old CaUie
Ellis answered, "I thought it was
very, very, very good!" Seven-
year-old ^elle Segall added, "The
Thumbelina play was my favorite."
Six-year-old Courtney Coats
responded, "I thought it was
funny,” and her twin Meghan Coats
summarized, "I liked all the people
in the play."
Perhaps Meghan sensed that the
name TEENCO could be a mis
nomer, and that the group should
have been named TEAMCO since
the teens certainly seem to have
had an apju'eciation for the impor-
