Public ’workshop set
for land use plan
By Mary Beth Phillips
Staff writer
A public workshop has been set
for Nov. 5 to discuss a preliminary
draft of existing conditions in
Morrisville, the first step in the
update of Morrisville’s land use
plan.
The workshop will be held at
7:30 p.m. at Morrisville
Elementary School’s multipurpose
room.
The report, by the Woolen
Company of Raleigh, includes cur
rent land use, transportation, utili
ties, demographics and influences
from adjacent areas.
It will be used along with public
input to outline on potential goals
for the land use plan. Those goals
could be completed in the next few
months, with work on the plan
commencing at the first of the year.
A draft land use plan is expected
in April.
The contract to revise the land
use plan, which was last revised in
1989, was awarded on July 13 to
The Wooten Company, low bidder
of three bidders.
Though the town had only allo
cated $20,000 for the project, it
agreed to accept Wooten’s low bid
of $29,525. Two other bids came in
much higher, including
Benchmark, Inc., ($36,000), and
Hal McNceley and Associates
($62,000).
The board of commissioners will
consider the goals suggested at the
workshop at a meeting in
November before the firm will
continue its work on the plan.
