Association.
Pursuant to a call, quite a number of
members of the Ojslow and Jones
branch of the Farmers Mutual Fire lu
auraucs Association met in the Court
House In Trenton on Saturday tn* 17th

Tn* President, Mr. Georg* H. Sim

order.
Col. S. B. Taylor, Secretary, read th*
minutes oflast meetiug.
D. W. Whitaker, editor of the News
was invited to assist the Secretary.
Th* President, in a few brief remarks,
introduced Mr. J. 8. C. Carpenter, of
Baleigb. State Agent of th* Associa
tion, who addntsed the mealing at
some lenvth, giving much good and
practical advice and instruction. He
said the Association was lulsoded to
givs to the farmers cheap and safe in
surance. It gav* individual protection
backed by individual security. That
member* had it in their power to make
the organization a success or failure.—
As to cbeaposes no company in exist
ence otters such low rates. It only
costs 50 cents on the 8100 worth of
property to become a lift member, not
another cent to be paid, notes* a firs
should occur, aud then a pro rata as
sessment is made to meet the lews,
which, in most cases, would b« less
than you would givs an unfortunate
neighbor. The dauber from loss by firs
ir lass than in the ordinary firs com io
nics because only detached property is
insured, and the cost about mu«-teotb
less aud much safer.
The Secretary was asked to read
hie report which showed that 202 pol
icies have been issued, covering prop
erty to the amount of 8214.605. Num
ber of risks. 1370. Average risk, 8155.
Th* Secretary stated that a number of
applications for policies had bean mado
not yet approved by the supervisors,
that would increase the amount of iu
suraueo to 8250,000. Tnis is wooderfbl
progress, when we consider the lact that
this branch has been existence only
three months.
Th* talk of Mr. Carnentor made a
fine impression, and w#l add greatly to
lb* prosperity of this branch.
The annual meeting will be held id
Jacksonville on the second Monday in
Jauutry, 1898.
We tako the ’iberty to congratulate
