SMITHFIELD HIGH TIMES Now filling the spot recently vacated by world-renown soprano, Lily Pons, is Lawanda Langley, whose latest vocal accomplishment was shattering Liberace^s candelabra. We now look in on Bill Faulk in New York, who has just become president of the exciting new club, Faulk^s Lonely Hearts* Club, whose motto is "If your romance isn't cooking, call Faulk for a booking. Coporal James Whitehurst has just received the h5ghest medal of bravery ever awarded a man in the U, S, Army, When asked how he accomplished this outstanding feat. Corporal Whitehurst replied, "Oh, it tweren’t nothing," Mary Simmons, the first woman jockey to win the Kentucky Derby, has just retired to her horseranch in Tennessee, where she trains race horses. TRIP TO NEW YORK On Wednesday evening, April 13, Miss Wayne and I set out on quite an ex cursion, Our destination was New York, After a very restful (?) night on the bus, we arrived there around 7^30 a. m,, Thursday morning. That day was spent in touring the city. Among the si^ts we saw were St, John's Cathedral, Columbia University, Mt, Sinai and' Bellvue Hospi tals, Fifth Avenue, Wall Street, Broad way Theater district. Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, and Chinatown. That night we went to the Martin-Beck Theater to see "Teahouse of the August Moon," It was a delightful comedy, which we enjoyed very much. Friday was spent at the United Nations Building. This was a very val uable experience, for our own Dr, Frank P, Graham talked to us about the work of the United Nations. We went on a guided tour of the building, which is quite beautiful. In the afternoon we had a chance to spend some time in the gift center, where we had the opportunity to p-urchase souvenirs from all the countries represented at the U, N, We left New York later Friday evening and arrived in Washington, D, C,, that night, Saturday morning we visited our senators, the Capitol, and various other points of interest, Satulfday afternoon, after a very successful trip. We started home and arrived in Raleigh about S;30 a, m. David Harold Parker is hereby sen tenced to wear a convincing frown on his face the rest of hhis school year for making Miss Lewis and 5th period book keeping students laiigh 'till their sides ache. Ill, VJhitey W* is hereby acquitted of the charges that he is a woman-hater on the grounds that he's been seen talking to girls like they were human beings, and even danced with some at the Jr,-Sr, dance.
