SMITHFIELD HIGH TIMES IN MY OPINION S. H, S, is nearly popping her searns | with pride, and you can give the credit for this enthusiasm to Frank Berry Skinner, Janet Wall, and Dennis Watson* These three seniors are the lucky recep~ ients of scholarships to Wake Forest, East Carolina, and U, N, C, respectively* Their fine work means so much to the school, the students, and the teachers# May I say Congratulations, you three, we’re so happy for youi I would like to pay special tribute to our janitors, Joe, Louise, and James# They are a very important part of our school system and they seem interested in everything we do# They come before anyone else in the mornings, winter and dummer, work throughout the day, and are the last ones to leave in the afternoons# Besides school days, they often come to work on Saturdays, and they are always on hand to help before and after any entertainment we have here. It is a tre mendous job for three pefople to keep up two school buildings and their campus, as you can well imagine, and they always need our cooperation. I can’t imagine whab S, H# S, might be like if it were not so we could call on Joe everytime something goes wrong. The school just wouldn’t be the same without our old friends Joe and Louise and without James who has been here just this year. I want them to know that we really do appreciate them and their work tremendously, and our hats are off to them I This year’s "High Times" staff has been tops in cooperation and dependabl-.. lity and I want to say thank you to the Assistant Editor, Art Editors, Advertis ing Managers, News Editors, Sports Edi tors, and Faculty Advisor, You’ve all done wonderful jobs on our paperI The members of the Journalism Club deserve honorable mention for the beautiful work they have done in connection with the paper, too, and we aopreciate wny article written for the paper by any student or teacher more than we can say here# Thank all of you# You rate my Badge of Merit fo] your work. TO THE SUBSTITUTE BUS DRIVERS A report has been written about each regular bus driver and we don’t think it is fair to leave out the sub stitutes# This year we have four substi tutes. They are: Seniors — Charles Edwards and Sherwood Cooke Juniors — Ben Daughtry and Lawrence Langdon Ben says they don’t have anything to do, but if we didn’t have them, there would be no one to drive the buses should a regrilar one be absent. Our hats are off to you sub stitute bus drivers!I Margaret Sanders YOUNG PEOPLE’S SPEAKING TOURNAMENT On Monday, the 25th of April, Joe Durward Creech journeyed to Pine Level to enter the Johnston Baptist Associat- ional speaking contest# He spoke on Is Your Life Spent or Invested? Joe Durward did an excellent job and his only criticism was the length of his speech. By winning he will go on to the Regional Contest which will be held in Burlington. Faye Hardy Miriam Htmiphrey CLUB REPORTS The Band Club met in the Band room with Mr, Rogers as usual. The members enjoyed participating in a "Bottle Orchestra", It was very entertaining to listen to the sounds the members made with each bottle. The Home Ec# Club met with Carolyn Lee presiding. The club went to see the 4-H Dress Revue# When they returned they worked on the dresses they were making. Julie Hooks
