I SMITHFIELD HIGH TIMES IN MY OPINION: The organization of a PTA by our parents shows that their interest in our school is constant. Let’s hope that this interest will continue, and that our PTA will create better parent~teacher under standing , All I can say for exams is Rough. -X-X-X-iHBHHHHHHHC-X-JHf- P, E. and Shelton certainly look good in their uniforms. In fact our whole team looks pretty sharp. Let’s hope Hal doesn’t meet with any more slick floors. Speaking of basketball, how is your sportsmanship? In past years our school spirit has been something to be proud of. It seems this year that things are getting out of hand. Even if you feel that the referee has made a poor decis ion, for the sake of your team keep quiet. Please no booingi SHS coeds seem to look better every month. All the local Sadie Hawkins look quite alluring in Christmas cashmere. The Mickey Mouses look right cute in their hats too. We should be more tolerant of our teachers. Try to rememberI Editor CLUB PICTURES On January 18th the editor of our annual, Louise Stevens, with the assist ance of the photographer, Jack Taylor, Went to each club to arrange the students and take pictures of each group. The officers of each club were selected to pose in various groups, re presentative of each club. Along the way, various comments were heard, Mrs, Wilkins seemed frantic when she was asked how she would pose her Dramatics group, Louise selected officers Jane Twis- dal^, Katherine Lee, and Susan Creech (also Ann Booker - the Scrapbook Editor) from the Journalism Club, Jane told me they sat on the floor and smiled as they flipped through the pages of the scrap book. In the Library Club, Elmarie Johnson said they dusted library books while Jack snapped a picture. Each club, in its turn, had its picture taken and when the annual comes back this spring, I’m sure we'll find that Louise’s and Jack's efforts were successful. Margaret Sanders CHAPEL On Wednesday, January 11, the fac ulty and students met for the first time since the Christmas holidays. Miss Parker led the group in the singing of some old favorites. Among them were the numbers, ’’Dixie", "The Battle Hymn of the Republic", and "i^.lma Mater". liT, Glenn then gave us some very helpful advice on the value of a high school and college education in our future. He stressed the need of a high school diploma in getting a job. On Januai-y 25, we had for our guest speaker. Dr. Larry Mayo, the pastor of the First Baptist Church, Dr, Mayo gave a talk on his visit to the Holy Land, He spoke principally on his journey from Tripoli to Damascus. Included in the talk were many interesting descriptions of the foods and customs of the people and facts about the history of the Crusades. Mary Ann Stallings
