I know it was in my locker this morning." "That's nothing, I left fifty cents in my coat pocket and it's not there now." "Well, somebody was kind enough to put my library book back after three weeks," These are a few of the comments you might hear at recess. There's always the chance that the money was misplaced or that the apple was left hcmie on the kitchen table. We all hope that was the case. But there have been too many "lost books" and too much "misplaced money" lately. Four words inscribed on this years' class rings are "truth, loyalty, wisdom, and honor." These virtues are all equally important. They are traits we should all have. If we won every basketball game, I’eceived all the football trophies and had everyone making good grades 5 and still it could be said "Smithfield High has some students who aren't honest" the objective of education and the efforts of our facility would he wasted. It has been said that almost every person in prison heartily regrets the first dishonest thing he ever did. Let's hope none of us ever have to have that regret. -Editor HOMAGE TO THE CHxlIST-CHILD The Christmas season is the only time of the year when we really think seriouslj^ about unselfish giving and loving our fellow man. It is quite fitting that we should manifest our love for our fellow man at the celebration of the birth of Christ, who was God's supreme gift for love, -t is wonderful that we render aid to those in need, support our churches, and extend heartiest greetings even to our enemies. However, it is a shame that we think of these things only at Christmastime. Of course, we want to pay homage to the Christ-child, but the greatest homage we could pay would be to live for our fellow man each day of the year. It was He himself who said: "Whosoever has done it unto the least of these, my brethen, has done it unto me." •Assistant Editor SMITHFIELD HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP HONOR ROLL 2nd Rep ort Grade 9: Glenda Adams, Barbara Ann Allen, liargaret Lee Austin, Mary Ann Britt, Betty Lnu Coates, Bonnie Sue Creech, Kay Faulk, Blenda Gray, Gloria Hinton, Cynthia Ray, Barbara Strickland, Faye Triplette, Eddie Wilkins, Cynthia Williamson.
