MISS CANADAY PRESENTS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN RECITAL . BANDS PRESENT CONCERT On Wednesdays May Miss Flora Canaday presented her high school piano pupils in a recital in the school auditorium. Most of the program was duet ensembles. The students participa ting were either present or former pupils of Miss Canaday5 with the exception of Donna Burgess 9 a pupil of Mrs. Fred Woodard5 and Margy Hinnant who accompanied the flute duet played by Janet Montgomery and Cynthia Reynolds, Freshmen and sophomores ■&'iho performed Were Mary Daniels 9 Laura Isleyg Rebecca Taltons Margaret WellonSj J\ilia Gilbert, Cathy Lewis, Patricia Parrish, Ann Sloan, and Beth Wells, Juniors and seniors idio performed were Jane Holt, Gloria little, Craig Barbour, Lois Bryant, Ginger Daughtery, Billy Oliver, and Joan Shall- cross, Donna Burgess and Terry Knott played the recessional march. Highlights of the selections were ^Fiddle Faddle”, "'Flute Cocktail” Tea for Two’S and Ferrante and Teicher's arrangement of "Exodus” brilliantly played by Joan Shallcross and Billy Oliver, At the close of the program, Mrs, John Themis presented the Aeolian Music Award to Billy Oliver who was judged the most outstanding music student of the Senior class. Congratulations, Billyh Jane Holt The annual spring Smithfield band concert was presented Tuesday night, May 8, in the high school auditorium. The Beginner, Junior, and Senior bands participated. The program included the following selectionss ^Onward Christian Soldiers” "National Hymn” by Beginner Band "Columbian March” "Pavane” Songs from the King and I by Junior Band "The Stars and Stripes Forever” "Nightfall” (Laura Ray, clarinet solo5 "Great Themes from Great Italian Movie "Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks" (Tim Daughtry, French horn soloist) by Senior Band Everyone who attended thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful music rendered by the bands under the expert direction of Mr, Lee Rogers, HUNTER JOMSON MUSIC CLUB This year, the Hunter Johnson Music Cl has enjoyed an informative and entertainii year.. In addition to hearing all types o. music played by the members, we took on a:, extra project— The study of the evolutioi of the American musical theater. Main musicals studied were Oklahoma I , The King and I. Carousel. Allegro, and Brigadoon, Numerous other plays were mentioned, Billy Oliver
