Museum (Director Mary Bradford, director of the Iredell County Museum of Arts and Heritage for the past four-and-a-half years, has resigned. The resignation followed a "closed" meeting of the museum board Tuesday, August 27, at which Bradford was not present. Regarding that meeting, Bradford said, "I feel the Board made some very swift decisions without my input. As a result, I made the choice to resign." The board decisions, she said, directly affected her and the, operation of the museum. While at the museum, Bradford placed emphasis on the Farmstead and on improving and enhancing the galleries. "The Farmstead is one of the museum’s strong suits because it is very visible and provides the most opportunities for the museum to draw school children in and teach them the her itage of Iredell County," she said. Another area of concentration, she said, has been improving the aesthetic appeal of the museum’s galleries. One innovation was to put carpet on the walls so pictures could be hung and displayed more easily, she said. "We also did major cleanings and renovations to make the museum more attractive and effi cient," she said. Because of the Farmstead and quality exhibitions in the ^ gallery, Bradford said, the museum has been bringing in hun i dreds of people and has established "a rapport with the local i school system and teachers." Recent events at the Farmstead * cabin, have been drawing 300 to 500 people. Among the notable exhibitions during her tenurewere displays by Ben Long, Ivey Hughes, Cotton Ketchie, Jodi John Pippin and many fine local artists. She also indicated the Sharpe House Christmas Tour and the recent Art on the Green as high lights. See Bradford on page 12 Mary Bradford
