Miriam Elizabeth Irving of

Memorial Hospital follow
ing a period of declining
health. Born in Richmond. Va.. she was
the daughter of the late Edward Guy Irving
and Willie Gibson bving. She was a gradu
ate of the H.F. Long Hospital Registered
Nurse Class of 1945 and was retired from
the Iredell Memorial Hospital following
many years of service. She was a member of
Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church
and served as an Army nurse during World
Warn.
Survivors include a number of nieces and
nephews, including Ann Bryant Coker and
her husband. George, of Rosell. Ga., and
William C. Bryant and his wife. Vicki
Me Vey Bryant, of Union Grove. NC. as well
as numerous great-nieces and great
nephews.
Graveside funeral services were conducted
at Oakwood Cemetery. Nicholson

Wayne Gibson Milstead of
, Gregory Road died at
faedefl Memorial Hospital.
Born in bedell County, he
was the son of the late J.N. and Myra
Thomas Milstead. He was a graduate of
Statesville schools and attended Mitchell
College. He was a member of First A.R.P.
Church and had been self-employed with
Denvard Hodges as a co-owner of Hodges
and Milstead Service Station for 18 years.
He was a member of the Statesville Elks
Lodge, a member of the Statesville Civitan
Chib, and had been a member of the North
Carolina Service Station Dealers Association.
He served in the armed forces with the U.S.
Coast Guard.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Sigmon
Milstead; a daughter, Wanda Milstead Wrfborn; a
brother. James N. Milstead; a sister, Helen
Milstead Haselden and three grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services were conducted
at Oakwood Cemetery with military honors.

Mecklenburg County, she was a daughter of
the lam Philip Lee Wally. Sr., and Maxine
Coley Wally of Monroe. She was a physi
cians assistant with the Iredell County
Health Department since 1995. She graduat
ed from Salem College and Bowman-Gray
School of Medicine Nursing Program of
Wake Forest University.
Survivors include her husband. Stephen G.
Hampton. Sr.; a son. Stephen Gray
Hampton. Jr.; two daughters. Jennifer
Hampton del Valle and Emily Gray
Hampton. Also surviving are a brother. Lee
Wally. Jr.; maternal grandparents. Mack and
Eloise Coley; a special great-aunt. Addle
Mae Summerville, a brother-in-law. sister
in-law and two nieces.
Funeral services were conducted at Broad
Street United Methodist Church. Burial was
in the Westlawn Memorial Gardens in

Johnnie Abraham Lipe erf Cedar St. died at
I xkr Norman Regional Medical Center.
Bora in Iredell County, he was a son erf die
late Abraham K. Lipe and Annie J. Beaver
Lipe. He was a member of Beulah Heights
Wesleyan Church where he was a long time
steward and head usher. He was a burial
vault builder for Ostwah Vault Company
and a brick mason.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille Brown
Lipe; two sons, Gary Lipe and Darrell Lipe;
two grandchildren, Pamela Howard and
Brent Lipe; two great-grandchildren. Ally son
Howard and Noah Reid Lipe; and two sis
ters. Dorothy Hager and Ruby Wilhelm.
Funeral services were conducted at Beulah
Heights Wesleyan Church. Burial was in

Ruth Reid Kiker of Harmony died at bedell
Memorial Hospital. Born in bedell County,
she was a daughter of the late Robert Lee
and Ida Myers Reid. She was a member of
Harmony United Methodist Church, a grad
uate of Harmony High School, and
University of North Carolina, Greensboro.
She was a commercial education teacher in
Harmony High School East Mecklenburg
High School in Charlotte, Lee Edwards High
School in Asheville and Statesville Senior
High School. Her husband, Rev. Wade
Kiker. preceded her in death.
Survivors include throe sisters, fata Reid
Long, Edith Reid Transnrck and Jean Reid
Bowen; one step-daughter, Mary Glenn
Kiker; two step-sons, Frank Kiker and Joe
Kiker; 11 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at

at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Born in
Statesville, she was the daughter of the late
James Otis Cain and Susan Viola Bennett
Cam. She was a 1948 graduate of Statesville

She and her husband served in the manage
ment of the Statesville Holiday Inn. She was
a member of the Statesville Altrusa Club and
a member of First Baptist Church, where she
had served as president of the WMU. She
was also a member of the Applewhite
Sunday school class.
Survivors include her husband, James
Benjamin Holcombe, Sr.; a son, James B.
Holcombe. Jr.; a daughter, Jane Holcombe
Clendenm; four grandchildren, Matthew and
Meredith Clendenin and Benjamin aid Katie
Holcombe; aid two sisters.

County, she was the daughter of the late
Ransom and Hattie Patterson Campbell. She
attended Iredell County Schools and was of
the Baptist hath. She was a retired floral
designer and had been associated with
Johnson Greenhouses. Her husband. R B.
Nantz, preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Sharon
Nantz Rikard and Elizabeth Nantz

lengthy illness. She was born in Buncombe

Schools, was a homemaker and was of the
Baptist faith.
Survivors include a son, Oscar Lewis
Ttffbaville; two grandchildren, Jon franklin
Turbiville and Thomas Lewis TurbiviDe; and
four great-grandchildren.

bedell Memorial Hospital after a period of

was the son of the late Rueben and Pauline
Needhcm Crews. He attended Forsyth
County Schools and was disability retired
from the Statesville Auto Auction. He had
also been associated with Kewaunee
Scientific and Campbell’s Nursery
(Harmony Gardens). His first wife, Shirley
Wall Crews, preceded him in death.
Survivors include has wife, Curd Riter Scott
Crews; a daughter. Debbie Crews Shore: a
son, Michael Lee Crews; a step-son, Shawn
Marsh; and a step-daughter, Mandy M.
Stratmann. Also surviving are six grandchil
dren, one great-grandchild, three brothers
and three sisters.
Funeral services were conducted in the
Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial
was in the Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.

in Wilkes County, she was a daughter of the
late John Marse and Merzie Holbrook
Childers. She attended Wilkes County
Schools, was a member of Northmont
Baptist Church, and owner and operator of
Vera's GriU. She was a lifetime member of
the Gordon Heath VFW Post 2031 Ladies
Auxiliary, and a member of the Eastern Star.
Her first husband, Herman Stikelcather. pre
ceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Robert H.
Seay; a daughter, Brenda S. Wilson; a sister.
Fern C. Payne; 13 grandchildren, 14 great
grandchildren. three great-grcstt-grandchfl
dren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted in the
