of Distinction Two Years in a Row

American Education Week
ended with a "Blast7' at Sharon
Elementary School, a Big Blast
Cake that is. The cake was in honor
of American Education Week and
the fact that Sharon Elementary
was named a School of Distinction.
"We are very proud of our children
and our staff and what they have
accomplished." Principal Pam
Stewart said.
The wedding-style cake was made
and decorated in an Amen can
theme by Shellie and Dome Brown.
The four layer, red. white and blue
cake was adorned with flags, stars
and patriotic ribbons. 'To make
certain we had enough cake for every
child, smaller cakes were decorat
ed with School of Distinction on
the top." Stewart said.
Not only did the school celebrate
American Education Week, they
also celebrated being named a North
Carolina School of Distinction two
years in a row. “We are very proud
of that honor and were very close
to being named school of excel
lence tins year." Stewart added.
“Iredell County had 14 schools of
distinction and seven schools of
excellence.” said Kathy Davidson,
executive director/public relations
Iredell Statesville Schools. The
schools are graded each year on growth
and proficiency. To become a school
of excellence 90 percent of students
