Den Leaders Fred Myers and John Downs, Den Leaders David Shippee and Jim Mixson. _ The Cab Scoots of Dm 1, Pack spent lale fsA building bat habi tats, learning about Native rendezvousing with fellow scouts. in late October, the scouts joined over 5,000 other cubs at the 2003 Boy Scout Rendezvous at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds in Shelby. Including the Boy Scouts, Ventures and Explorers, the event had a gate attendance of over 8,500 scouts. With materials donated by Statesville Roofing Company, Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse Store of Statesville and Spicer Off-Highway Products Division, the scouts recently built drums and learned about Native American Symbol. Parii boy drew a picture based on symbols mounted on the outside of the drums. On Nov. 6, the scouts built bat houses with materials donated by Lowes and learned, through information qippliwi by the Organization for Bat Conservation, that bats “are man's allies” and play a vital rote in maintaining the balance of nature against pesky creatines like mosquitoes. A single brown bat can catch hundreds per hour and a colony can protect nearby farmers from infestations of rootworms. Scouts participating in the bat house building project were Ben Brown, Benjamin McKinney, Nicholas Shippe, Ross Weiser, Sam Garrett, Patrick Martin, Aaron * White, Julian Hawkins, Clark Williamson, Reid Weiser and Harrison Downs.
