W Linda Wilson IREDELL CITIZEN Following in her grandfather’s, father’s, brother’s and sister’s boot steps, Cassie Laws is getting plenty of recogni tion in the National High School Rodeo Association (NHSRA). In 1954 her grandfather, C. A. (Jack) Laws was one of five men to start the Southern Rodeo Association that spon sored rodeos from Florida to Virginia. Her father, Mike Laws rode his share of bulls and was Junior Southern Rodeo Association bareback champion in 1969. He still participates in team roping. Cassie’s grandmother raises quarter hors es and her aunts and uncles are involved in rodeos, too. Her sister, Hannah, was named North Carolina NHSRA all-around cowgirl and received the Gabby Hayes college schol arship for her success. She and her hus band, PBR professional bull rider and recent winner of the PBR Tampa Open, Mike White, own a ranch in Texas where they are both still involved in the rodeo. Cassie’s sister Bonnie was Southern Rodeo Association (SRA) Junior All around Cowgirl and Reserve Champion in NHSRA. “Cassie is following her sisters’ lead, which can be a helpful example but also can be hard acts to follow,” said Cassie’s father, Mike Laws.
