Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day Set for May 15
It’s time to clean out those cabinets
and garages for spring cleaning.
When you do, collect chemicals,
paints and pesticides for Iredell
County’s spring Household
Hazardous Waste Collection Day
Saturday, May 15, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
at the Iredell County Fairgrounds
near Troutman. The event is spon
sored by the Iredell County Solid
Waste / Recycling Department.

STATESvnxE-Sears at Signal Hill Mall - and elsewhere - has been updat
ed and wishes to share its new look with customers Saturday, May 15,
beginning at 9 a.m.
The store celebration features Sears Gift Cards and candy for the first 125
customers coming in through the store’s Broad St. entrance. Customers
can also enter contests for shopping sprees.
The Signal Hill store is one of 120 Sears nationwide getting a new look.
Five new stores are also being opened by the nationwide retailer.
According to Sears officials, the updates include upgraded shoe, home
fashions and appliance departments. The appliance department features
all six of the major appliance brands including Kenmore.
Also, the electronics department has been updated and offers plasma
TV’s, stereos, camcorders and digital cameras. The top eight brands of
big-screen TV’s are available. The fitness department, which offers a
variety of equipment, has also been upgraded.
The store also features a portrait studio, optical shop, Miracle Ear center
and an H&R Block center during tax season. The 93,450 square foot store
has 65,161 square feet of selling space and employs 100 associates.

Mooresville - SpeakAbility, Inc. announces Susan Schall, public
speaking consultant, will be conducting a Business Workshop Series enti
tled “How You Say it Does Make a Difference.”
This third and final workshop in the Series “Effective Meetings: Getting
the Most from Your Meetings” takes place Tuesday May 18 from 6:30

focuses on creating an agenda for your meeting, sticking to it and mak

The event is free to all Iredell
County residents but proof of resi
dence will be required. Drivers

stickers on your car will suffice.
Hazardous waste generated by pri
vate businesses, commercial or
industrial businesses will not be
accepted at this program. Call

Items accepted include aerosol
cans, adhesives, fluorescent light
bulbs, pesticides and herbicides,
solvents and thinners, disinfectants,
wood preservatives, pool chemi
cals, household cleaners and pol
ishes, paints and stains, kerosene,
motor oil, gasoline and other fuels,
photographic chemicals, automo
tive fluids and antifreeze, auto bat
teries and household batteries.
Do not bring regular trash or recy
clables. Instead take these to the

Australian
Themed Camp
Asheboro - The North Carolina Zoo
Society will host an Australian
themed Zooper Camp this summer
Monday, June 21, through Wednesday,
June 23. The day-camp adventure
will celebrate the N.C. Zoo’s newest
exhibit, the Australian Walkabout.
All campers, ages 6 to 11, will
explore the “Wonder Down Under” at
the N.C. Zoo and learn about
Australian animals: kangaroos,
emus, wallabies, frilled lizards, pythons,
lorikeets and more. Campers will
explore Australians, attitudes toward
the land, Aboriginal and Australian
cultures, and the environment.
The Australian Zooper Camp will
be filled with bush-camp activities.
Planned events include making
boomerangs, playing didgeridoos,
telling dreamtime stories and tour
ing the Australian Walkabout exhibit.
Three fun-filled days from 7:30 a.m.
to 5:30 p.m. cost $100. Half-day
campers can attend from 7:30 a.m.
to 12:30 p.m. for $50. Lunch and
snacks are included for both schedules.

or asbestos, explosives, infectious
waste or radioactive materials.
All materials should be packed
safely to bring to the collection. If
possible leave materials in original
containers with labels intact. Put
them inside the trunk of your car in
a cardboard box lined in newspa
per or plastic. Do not mix materi
als. A trained professional hazardous
waste employee will remove the
items from your vehicle at the site.
At all times programs exist for
some household hazardous waste
in Ircocll county. Motor on, auto
mobile batteries, tires and recharge
able batteries, fluorescent bulbs
and antifreeze can be taken to all
four Iredell County Solid Waste
Facilities. There is also a Latex
Paint Swap Shop for usable paints
at the Twin Oaks location only.
Pesticide containers are accepted
at the Twin Oaks and 901 locations
only. Computers and other elec
tronics are accepted in January at
the annual Electronics Recycling
Day. Just as the collection event,
these programs are for Iredell
County homeowners. Businesses
must contract for disposals.
