During April, the Iredell County Public Library hosted a poetry and art contest to foster the legacy and phi
losophy of Dr. Martin Luther King. The contest had three age categories and children drew a picture or wrote
a poem about accepting or celebrating the differences among people. Winners pictured below are,front row, left

Super Salad Luncheon Set at Hiddenite Center
The Hiddenite Center is once
again offering its Super Salad
Luncheon Tuesday, June 1.
Proceeds from the fund raiser will
benefit programs at the Hiddenite
Center and throughout ihe
Alexander, Iredell, Catawba,
Caldwell, Burke and Wilkes county
service region.
The Center’s Educational Complex
in Hiddenite will be the site for the
luncheon sponsored by Friends of
the Center and its volunteers. The
meal features a buffet of all kinds
of salads, ham, rolls, and much
more and includes a choice of bev
erages and homemade desserts all
for $6. Take out plates are avail
able.
The fund raiser will supplement
the non-profit Center’s many pro
grams and services offered to the
general public and further the
Center’s goal to provide a broad
spectrum of the arts for the pubic
“Programming services are expen
sive,” says Director Dwaine Coley,
“and the Center is deeply grateful
for this attempt to expand its serv
ice budget.”
The luncheon begins when the
doors of the Center open at 11:30
a.m. and stay open until 1:30 p.m.

Also in June, the Hiddenite Center
will begin the “Off the Wall” out
door film series.

“Off the Wall” brings together two
of the region’s agencies, the
Hiddenite Center in Alexander
County and the Caldwell Arts
Council in Caldwell County, for a
collaborative effort.
“Off the Wall” provides the public
free access to quality films in
Taylorsville every other Tuesday
evening beginning at 8 p.m. and in
Lenoir every other Thursday
evening beginning at 8:30 p.m.
beginning on Thursday, June 3.
Films continue every other week
through the month of July.
Due to film rights and restrictions,
the groups cannot announce the
films titles through the media;
however, interested persons are
encouraged to contact the agencies
for specific titles, all of which are
familiar to the public. All films are
recent releases and are rated PG
13 and G. A complete listing of
the titles will be shared with the
audiences at the first showings.
The public is encouraged to bring a
chair or a blanket, and enjoy a big
screen viewing.
