Nine celebrities, including well known coaches, race car drivers and even a member of last year’s Carolina Panthers Super Bowl squad, participated in the Statesville Christian School Golf Tournament held May 11 at die ’Statesville Country Club. Notables attending included Dan Reeves, former coach of the Adanta Falcons; Bobby Richardson, former All Star second basemen of die New York Yankees; Bobby Lutz, coach of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte 49ers; Bobby Cremins, former Georgia Tech coach and TV commentator; Ned Jarret, retired NASCAR great; Steve Smith, wide-receiver for die Carolina Panthers; Ed Broyhill, politician; Neil McGeachy, athletic director at Lenoir-Rhyne University; and Jerry Moore, Appalachian State University football coach. Thirty teams of golfers bid on the privilege of having (me of die celebrities on their teams. Numerous corporate sponsors also contributed to the tournament’s success. Rescue Squad Reports The Iredell County Rescue Squad responded to 163 calls during April, Donnie Perry, chief of the Iredell County Rescue Squad, reports. The month’s calls included: Wreck calls, 32; ambulance .calls, 16; medical stand-bys, 3; first respon der calls, 65; searches, 5; fire department stand-by’s, 14; county ambulance stand-by’s, 1; and oth ers, 27. Squad vehicles traveled 2,665 miles, using 394.73 gallons of fuel. Thirty-three hours of continuing education were provided. The wreck calls included five entrap ments and two pin-in’s. The squad is a United Way agency.
