Announces Scholarship Winners

Mooresville - Each year, the
Lake Norman Regional Medical
Center Volunteer Auxiliary awards
four academic scholarships to
assist students pursuing health
related careers. The volunteers
coordinate fundraising efforts
through the volunteer-run gift shop
Alyssa Renee Abbott
as well as special Easter and
Thanksgiving projects
A scholarship committee of the
Auxiliary awards a $2,000 scholar
ship to four student applicants
after reviewing applications and
candidate interviews. Students are
evaluated on academic achieve
ment, financial need and demon
strated desire to pursue further
education. This year’s scholarship
recipients are Elisa Catherine
Marez, Alyssa Renee Abbott,
Jaclyn Nicole Dillard and Kristin
Delk Curtis.
Marez received the Bob Tobias
Scholarship, named in honor of a
former, active volunteer. A gradu
ate of Hopewell High School,
Marez is pursuing a nursing degree
at the University of North Carolina
at Charlotte and is currently a
Huntersville resident.
Three Local Political
Forums Scheduled
Got tough questions for local can
didates? You’ll have a chance to
put them on the spot three times in
the coming weeks.
The first forum will be held 7-9
p.m. at Lake Norman High School
auditorium. The candidates are on
the line again June 17 at the
Statesville High School auditori
um also at 7-9 p.m. To give folks in
north Iredell a chance, the final
forum will be held July 15 at the
North Iredell High School audito
rium.
Local candidates invited include
Iredell County commissioners,
Iredell-Statesville school board
and state house and senate hope
fuls. All candidates will have
opening remarks and will take
written questions from the audi
ence. All Iredell County citizens
are invited.

Elisa Catherine Marez
While a student at Lake Norman
High School, Abbott participated
in the Volunteer Auxiliary’s Junior
Volunteer summer program and
has been awarded the Junior
Volunteer scholarship based on her
proven interest in the health care
industry. She is a Mooresville res
ident and is attending the
University of North Carolina at
Wilmington to pursue a nursing
degree.
A Hopewell High School senior,
Dillard was awarded the Book
Scholarship for her demonstrated
interest in pursuing a career as a
nurse anesthetist. She will attend
UNCC beginning this fall.
Curtis also received a Book Schol
arship and is a sophomore at the
University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill. This is the second
scholarship awarded to Curtis by
Lake Norman Regional Medical
Center’s Volunteer Auxiliary.
Curtis is a Hopewell High School
graduate and plans to attend med
ical school upon completing her
undergraduate degree.
