There’s something about a
lady in a hat, especially a
broad-brimmed bonnet with
frills, flowers and maybe even
a little fruit on the side.
Bonnets not only can make you
“the grandest lady in the
rotogravure” but diffuse harsh
sunlight that puts harsh shad
ows on your face and lines in
your forehead.
Hardly anything else brings
such a touch of elegance to the
human
head. Not “do’s at the hair
salon or a bottle of Breck.
Bonnets bespeak creativity and
feminity and recently filled the
Statesville Senior Center with both
as ladies competed there to see
who could come up with the
best hat and set the fanciest table.
As it turned out, the top hat
lady was Carolyn Thomas,
whose hat looked, a bit like
Minnie Pearl’s but lacked a tag.
Rose Marie Schindler was
declared top table setter.
