Bonnets not only can make you “the grandest lady in the rotogravure” but diffuse harsh sunlight that puts harsh shad ows on your face and lines in your forehead. Hardly anything else brings such a touch of elegance to the human head. Not “do’s at the hair salon or a bottle of Breck. Bonnets bespeak creativity and feminity and recently filled the Statesville Senior Center with both as ladies competed there to see who could come up with the best hat and set the fanciest table. As it turned out, the top hat lady was Carolyn Thomas, whose hat looked, a bit like Minnie Pearl’s but lacked a tag.
