Lelia Stocks Conner Summers of
Taylorsville Hwy. died at Iredell
Memorial Hospital. Bom in
Columbus County, NC, she was a
daughter of the late William and
Rachel Williamson Stocks. She
was retired from Saffiet Mill in
Rockingham, and was a member
of Westminister Church of God.
Her first husband, Marvin Monroe
Conner, and her second husband,
Dewey Summers, both preceded
her in death.
Survivors include one daughter,
Ruth C. Honeycutt; two sons,
Johnny Brooks Connor and Joseph
Earl Conner, five sisters, 17 grand
children, 29 great-grandchildren,
and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at
Westminister Church of God.
Interment was in Richmond
Memorial Park in Rockingham.

Vernon Avenue died at Iredell
Memorial Hospital. Bom in
Iredell County, she was the daugh
ter of Bertha Hayes Grose and the
late Herbert Grose, Sr. She was a
member of First Baptist Church
and was a retired nursing home
dietitian.
In addition to her mother, she is
survived by her husband, William
C. Findt, Jr.; one son, Randall
Griffith; one daughter, Rhonda
Bridgeman; one step-son, William
C. Findt, III; one step-daughter,
Katherine Elizabeth Shurts; for
mer husband, Ralph Griffith; two
brothers, four grandchildren, two
step-grandchildren and one great
grandchild.
Funeral services were at First
Baptist Church. Burial was in
Oakwood Cemetery.

Billy Reid Laws of

Road has died.
Bom in Iredell
County, he was the son of the
late Reid and Octavia Albea Laws.
He served in the U.S. Navy and
was self-employed in stained glass
since 1953. He was a part owner
and founder of Statesville Stained
Glass, Inc. and was a member of
Western Avenue Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife,
Veanna Hedrick Laws; one son,
Billy Craig Laws; two brothers,
Ben Laws and Don Laws; five
grandchildren and eight great
grandchildren.
Funeral services were at
Nicholson Funeral Home.
Interment was in Oakwood

Fred Matthew Ross of

son of the late Tyra Ross and
Carrie Shaffner Ross. He was
retired from Yadkin Valley
Telephone Membership Corp. and
attended Clarksbury United
Methodist Church. He served in
the U.S. Army and was a member
of the North Iredell Lions Club
and American Legion Post #0113.
Survivors include his wife,
Tommie Ann Shoemaker; and one
daughter, Paula Ross Cooke and
husband, Andy.
Funeral services were at
Clarksbury United Methodist
Church. Burial was in the church

Golden Age
Club Meets
The Statesville Golden Age Club
will meet Thursday, Dec. 9 at 10
a.m. at Grace Park Recreation
Center on W. Bell St. Reanie
Henderson, the “bag lady”, will
entertain club members. Club
members are asked to bring finger
foods for a covered dish luncheon.
Visitors are always welcome.

Odessa Mae Hartness Setzer of
Monticello Road died at Autumn
Care of Statesville. Bom in Iredell
County, she was the daughter of
the late John and Ora Sloan
Hartness. She attended Iredell
County Schools, was a homemak
er and a member of Trinity United
Methodist Church. Her husband,
Jack Ray Setzer, preceded her in
death.
Survivors include two daughters,
Shelva Jean Lockamy and Delores
S. Swicegood; one daughter-in
law, six grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at Trinity
United Methodist Church.
Interment was in the church ceme

Blackmer will demonstrate how to
use the gifts of nature to decorate
for the Yule Season at an Advent
Workshop at Allison Woods
Saturday, Dec. 4, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Under Blackmer’s guidance par
ticipants in the workshop can
choose from many natural materi
als, traditional and unusual, to cre
ate Yuletide adornments. Materials
available include heavily berried
hollies, boxes, tea olive, white
pine, bamboo, false orange, cones,
nuts, magnolia, dried grasses,
flowers and many more surprises.
Grape and kudzu wreaths are
available at a minimal charge.
The Allison Woods foundation
will provide hot soup, hot tea and
warm bread at lunchtime. Lislot
Harberts will also host a walk
through Allison Woods.
Cost of the class is $40 per person
and space is limited. To reserve a

Hospital. Bom in Wyoming Co.,
NY, he was a son of the late Homer
S. Bush and Charlotte Goodenow
Bush. He was a truck driver and of
the Methodist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Mary
Kelly Bush; two sons, Scott Bush
and Robert Bush; one step-son,
Jerry Scroger; one step-daughter,
Elizebeth Mullen; four brothers,
three sisters, 13 grandchildren,
seven great-grandchildren and
numerous nieces and nephews.
