Meeting Set The Artist Guild of Statesville will meet Thursday, March 15, at the Signal Gallery at 7 p.m. The program will be given by Sylvia Spong from the Mooresville Artists Guild, who teaches pastel classes at the Mooresville Depot. Some of her work was recently accepted in the American Pastel Society’s show in Graham, NC. Members are urged to attend. The funding goes towards the renovation of the Mooresville Health Department, purchase of PDA phones and accessories if the program is successful, grant training to apply for larger foundation grants, mileage for staff to attend Incubator trainings and meetings and pay for project management software, hardware and training. • Approved the Health Department’s applying for grants from Kate B. Reynolds, the Lowes Hometown Grant Fund and Sisters of Mercy Foundation. Also approved accepting $1,500 from the area’s three hospitals. The Health Department can also use up to $100,000 of Medicaid Maximization Funds for its Dental Clinic expansion and up to $10,000 from the $100,000 Medicaid Max Funds for engineering services and r review/consultation regarding dental clinic plans and site. • Approved cooperating with Shepard Fire and Mooresville Fire Departments to provide additional fire protection in the Shepard’s fire district. • Appointed Dr. Ben Bowen to the Board of Health and tabled five appointments to Adult Care Home Community Advisory Committee and one to Nursing Home Advisory Committee. • Heard County Manager Joel Mashbum’s report that the planning, zoning and fire marshal offices will soon move into newly renovated offices on North Center Street (the old Long Hospital). The planning and zoning offices will be closed March 28 - 30 because of the move. The March 20 meeting will be cable broadcast and also on the county’s web page. For that reason there will be increased lighting in the meeting room. • Went into closed session to discuss economic development matters. Pet Adoption Fair Scheduled Dog Days come early this year at Tractor Supply Statesville when Iredell County Animal Control hosts a Pet Adoption Fair, Saturday, March 31, noon to 4 p.m. Adoptable dogs are $70 and cats will be $55. The event also features a hot dog cookout and bake sale. Children will have a coloring activity and face painting. The West Iredell Explorer Group will hold a cutest pet contest, but bring pictures only. Pet pictures for the contest should be brought to Tractor Supply Statesville between March 17 and March 30. Pictures will be posted in the store and the winner will be announced March 31. You do not have to be present to win. The contest winner receives a tractor supply gift card.
