Resigns
Statesville Police Chief Stephen G.
Hampton has notified City Manager
Rob Hites of his resignation
effective September 1. Hampton
was hired as Statesville’s Chief in
December 1994.
Hites said Hampton “has
performed his job with tremendous
professionalism and we will miss
him.” Hites also indicated that a
search for Hampton’s replacement
will begin immediately so that the
new chief can be in place September 1.
Hampton first announced his
intention to retire in April of 2006,
but later withdrew his notice after
City Council asked him to stay on
for a minimum of two more years.
At that time, Council also raised his
salary by $15,000 per year.
