Sponsor Mammoth Carnival
Plans Announced
For PU Board
In the process of organization
is the Chapel Hill High School
Publication Board, which is com
posed of representatives from the
Proconian and Hillife, who meet
to see that the finances and sub
ject matter of the publications
are kept up to standard. Members
of the board are: Miss Manci,
Proconian advisor; Barbara
Cushion, Proconian Editor; Mrs.
Macon, Hillife advisor; Billy
Carmichael, Hillife editor; and
another member from the faculty,
not yet chosen.
The Publications board has the
power to remove any person on
the staff of either publication, but
its principal function is to see
that the money necessary to the
publication of the paper and the
annual is fairly apportioned. An
effort is being made to make both
publications self-supporting.
Junior Class Goes On
Scavenger Hunt
Last Friday night the Student
Council entertained members of
the Junior Class at a Scavenger
Hunt given at the Recreation cen
ter as a reward for the class hav
ing been one hundred per cent in
the sale of S. A. U. tickets.
Boxes of candy mints were a-
v/arded to the winners of the hunt
who were Preston Wescoat, Car
lyle Markham, Stanley Cohen, and
Erwin Danziger. As another fea
ture of the party Miss Catherine
Cook of the Carolina Playmakers
entertained the group with songs
and imitations.

Library Cooperates in Celebration
National High School Book Week
P.T.A. Holds First Meeting
The First P. T. A. meeting of
the school year was held Novem
ber 6th in the elementary school
auditorium. Mr. Phillips Russell,
president, presided.
Mr. Honeycutt gave a review of
improvements made in the school
including the painting done this
summer and the draining of the
playground.

Highlighting the annual obser
vance of Book Week (November
12-18) Mrs. N. B. Adams, super
visor of the University War In
formation Center, spoke in assem
bly on Tuesday using the Slogan
“United Through Books” as the
main theme of her discussion of
the significance of Book Week.
Presiding at the assembly was
Elizabeth Lyons, newly-elected
secretary-treasurer of the Libra-

Popularity Contest
To Be Featured
Plans got under-way in the
High School last week for the
staging of a mammoth carnval to
be presented as the first attraction
in the Proconian 1944-45 enter
tainment series. Although the
exact date for the event has not
been settled. Editor Barabara
Cashion revealed last week that
ft tenative date sometime next
month is being deliberated.
The carnival, said to be the
largest thing ever attempted in
this school, will consist of side
shows, games of chance, rides, re
freshments and many other added
attractions. To be shown for the
first time in America, and possibly
anywhere in the world are sever
al exhibits which are considered
not only astonding, but tlso un-
believeable.
Editor Cashion also announced
that as a side light to the great
event a popularity contest to se
lect the king and queen of the
High School will be held, the win
ners to be crowned at the carniv
al.
The entire show will be under
the direction of Venitah Sanders,
staff entertainment chairman,
and her group of assistants.
Final Pep Rally Held
A pep rally to get the student
body in shape for the Siler City
game was staged Thursday night
in the school auditorium. After
a number of yells Mr. Honeycutt
introduced Coach Tom Lane who
in turn presented the members of
the football team, some of whom
are playing their last game for
C. H. H. S.
After a short pep talk by the
coach more yells were led by the
cheerleaders. A large crowd at
tended this last pep rally of the
football season.
