THE MEETING PLACE IN TOWN I Hillians Impressive In Several Spots A rejuvenated Chapel Hill High School basketball team last Tuesday night fought a tall, pow erful Burlington High cage squad to a virtual standstill be fore dropping a hard-fought con test by a 39-34 count. The game was played on the Burlington floor. The Cats, playing their best ball of the young season, looked as if they might run away with the game in the first period when they racked up six field goals to take a commanding 12-8 lead. The pace soon slowed down and the home team rallied to tie the ball game up and then go ahead at the half. Earlier in the third quarter the Hillians again turned on the steam, overcoming a 10- point disadvantage and tieing the game up at 33-all. But at this point the Chapel Hill boys again faltered and Burlington took a commanding lead which it never relinquished. Several factors contributed to the Wildcats’ defeat. Main one of these was the slippery condition of the floor which slowed down the speedy Hillian attack and was a decided advantage to the home team. Another was the fact that the ’Cats made good in only twelve of twenty-three at tempts from the free throw line. For the Wildcats Cornwell was the top scorer, dropping three field goals and three foul shots for a total of nine points. Car michael was second high with seven tallies. Coach Bud Stanbach stated, following the game, that he was very proud of the showing his boys had made and believes that a vast improvement has been shown since the Alumni game. ‘‘We’ve still got a few things to iron out,” he was quoted as say ing.
