Thursday, February 1, 1945 PROCONIAN Page Three Cats Lose To Sharpshooting Bragtown Five Cat Chatter By Houston Teague •XS5. Again we find it necessary to delve back into the rule book to bring to light proof of a bum deal. In other words, Chapel Hill was badly rooked in the Cary game. There are several reasons for saying this. First: The game was officially over before Cary made the winning field goal. The time keeper blew the whistle before the goal v/as made but was not heard by the referee. The referee would not change the score when he was informed of this. Second: Since the game was a tie at the end, the game is auto matically extended by a three- minute period overtime with two minutes between to rest. This rule can be found easily in any up-to-date rule book. The rule was stated to the referee who ig nored it, called a technical foul on the C. H. H. S. coach for com ing on the floor to tell him, and continued the game for a five- minute period. At the end of three minutes the Wildcats had a four-point lead on Cary. Wildcats Drop Disputed Contest To Cary; Stan bach Claims Game Cashion Injured As Girls Lose To Cary The Chapel Hill High School girls’ basketball team last Fri day night lost a hard-fought con test to the Cary High School girls at the Cary gym, 26-20. The Cary girls took an early lead and continued to hold it through the first half. The half time score was 18-9 in favor of Cary. Lloyd’s girls played hard and scored frequently in the third quarter. The last few minutes of the fourth quarter were disas trous for the C. H. H. S. girls, when, due to an ankle injury, they lost their most important guard, Barbara Cashion. Betty Ward Sparrow and Evelyn Merritt shared the hon ors of high scorer with eight points each. Hardware — Furniture Lloyd-Ray Service Insurance & Realty Co. THE MEETING PLACE IN TOWN The Chapel Hill High School basketball team bowed to Cary High School last week in a game played at Cary. The final score in the disputed contest was 21-19. The Cats, with two successive wins under their belts, strove to bring home another victory. At the half the Cats had not been able to make much progress against the Caryites on their home court, and the score stood at 8-4, in favor of Cary. The second half saw Carroll bucket three field goals, and the Wildcats began racking up points. The game ended in a deadlock, 17-17. In an effort to break the tie, both captains, Egbert for C. H. H. S. and Young for Cary, agreed to extend the time five minutes. Both teams fought back and forth and C. H. H. S. scored on a field goal. Cary tied the score again on a personal foul and a technical foul. The game reached its final climax when, thirteen seconds before the gun, Cary scored on a fantastic hook shot. Cary came through victorious, 21-19.—H.T. C.H.H.S. Loses First Tilt With Visitors Last Monday night in the Wom an’s Gym, C. H. H. S. dropped to Bragtown its first game with the visitors, 39-31. The first half was closely con tested but the Hillians trailed by 3 points at the gun, 17-14. In the second half Bragtown got an early start and racked up a 10-point lead. The Cats, how ever, bucketed several field goals as the game neared its end in a frantic effort to turn the tide. The final gun went off with Bragtown still ahead, 39-31.
