Over half the pupils of our High School wear them, or so it seems. This is far different from other high schools. Now don’t think that we are trying to stop the coach from giving every boy on the squad a letter. We know that the subs often work harder than the members of the varsity, and, therefore, they usually earn their letter. What we are trying to stop is the wearing of letters by persons who have not won them. Fortunately, the number of these illegal letters is small, but it should be zero. Wearing a letter which one didn’t earn shows his entire lack of respect for the boys who worked and earned letters. In college if a man wears a letter when he has no right to he usually takes a beating. This probably would not happen in C. H. H. S. but one never can tell. Another thing that is brought to our at tention is the wearing of letters by cheer leaders. We think that the cheerleaders should wear letters, but only when they ‘are acting as cheerleaders unless they could have a special kind of letter. Let’s stop this wearing of unearned let ters. If one wants to wear a letter let him keep trying to earn one, but don’t allow him to wear one that he hasn’t earned. ANDREWS-HENNINGER Shopping Center for THE CHAPEL HILL GAZETTE ‘'You will feel no regret if you read the Gazetted’ Chapel Committee Abolished Flash—It was authoritatively announced last week that the Student Council Chapel Committee had been abolished by school of ficials. Said a well-known C. PI. H. S. stu dent, ‘‘Sounds like apple abolishing to me.” The Committee, upon hearing the news, was not in the least perturbed. As the news of their dismissal swept the country, hun dreds of offers poured in from all sides. At last reports, it was stated that the group would accept a $5,000 a week position with the renowned Ellis Theatre of Durham, N. C. New Book Published Flash—Singlenight Doran & Co., New York publishers, revealed today that Billy Carmichael’s new book has just come off the presses and is ready for distribution. Telling of his experiences in Chapel Hill High School, Mr. Carmichael’s new book is entitled “Three Years in the Silo” or “Life with Fodder.” Some of the author’s other books which have already been published are “The Lives and Loves of Sammy Lou Ross” or “On Whom the Belies Told” and “A Twig Grows in Carr- boro.” Abie Glotsenpuschen Married Lt. Abie Glotsenpuschen, U.S.M.C.R., son of Mr. and Mrs. Abie Glotsenpuschen, Sr. of this city was married yesterday to Miss Anna Karenia at the home of the latter. The ceremony was performed in the early afternoon, after which the couple left for a week-long honeymoon in the cozy little moun tain village of Sizzling-on-the-Grill. The groom was dressed in a bright green, single-breasted Marine uniform with slant ing shoulders, the monotony of which was broken by two cleverly placed, gold bars. The effect of the coat was set off by a khaki shirt and a gaily knotted tie of the same material. The groom’s pants were of the same material as the coat and a brightly-shined pair of tan shoes completed the outfit. It is rumored that Lt. Glotsenpuschen also wore purple and yellow garters. The bride wore blue. All the Family CAROUNA THEATRE SUNDAY and MONDAY “TONIGHT AND EVERY NIGHT” Rita Hayworth Janet Blair • Lee Bowman As we sit here adding up the facts that we have accumulated this week we come out with a sum something like this: Billy (Heart-Breaker) Basnight made a new conquest Friday night—Mary Lou from Burlington. Now that basketball is over what will Billy do? We saw Madeline Jennings gawking at Bob Hogan instead of at the game Friday night while Evelyn Merritt was seen playing with Bob’s little brother. By the way, Eve lyn wanted to get into the Lonely Hearts Club but we don’t see what she’s got to be lonely about. F-L-A-S-H-!! Wettach has weakened!! “The Physick” (Page Harris) received all of Helen Jane’s attention at the State Cham pionship game Friday night. Those Durham boys aren’t bad are they, Wettach? Incidentally, it was just Elizabeth Morri son’s luck to be in the hospital Friday night when Don came over—but he was well taken care of. Heard at the Burlington game: “We want Ross” being yelled by a group of freshmen female fans. We just discovered that Christine Copeland has a new love affair—three guesses who it is??!! Roy Parker has a newly-acquired craze for Senior girls. Jean Cashion and Meggy Curry consulted the Ouija Board on a few important matters Friday night. Be careful boys, you may be under the spell of the Ouija. That Church group picnic really turned out to be quite an affair—if you’d come in right in the middle of it you would have observed the following: Horses Gobbel and Cummins with their re spective jockeys Sanders and Hogan amusing themselves with a little “horse game.” Giv ing up Energine Spotts, George? . . . Colbert Leonard playing Tarzan for the girls way up in a tree while Rodney looked for mistletoe. . . . Ward Peacock dashing here and there to get some shocking photos. And the grand total is a lotta dirt for every body. Some freshman boys chasing grammar school tots (third and fourth graders). We won’t mention names. High school girls couldn’t be that bad!! Freda Lee Thompson carrying John Wil liams’ pictures around . . . watch this for further developments. Bernard Lloyd and Mary Helen McFarland enjoying Modern Problems Class together... Since we gotta go home now, we leave you to look around town yourself ... so we re main yours truly for bigger and better dirt, F-3661 and 5451
