Area Htgh School Senior Band, directed by Louis Guisto, entertained the student body April 16 with a concert in the circle to open four days' observance of the Carolina Dogwood Festival in Statesville. C., FRIDAY, MAY 22, 1970 No. 8 Miss Sharyn Anne Russell, instructor of music, will wed sophomore David McSwain June 19 in Merrimon Ave. Baptist Church, Asheville. Mr. McSwain plans to transfer to UNC-Chariotte to continue his education. EDITOR-ELECT of "The 1971 Circle," college annual, is Gory Lackey, a rising sophomore. Ballot ing was held May 12. At Statesville Country Club May 20 the college faculty and staff honored retiring President John Montgomery with a din ner, at which he received gifts of a recliner and a wine cooler. HEROIC HURLERS—"The Mixed Dozen" show their elation after winning April 29's intramural softball classic 16-11 over the all-star team, composed of players chosen by three losing teams in regular season. State Board of Higher Educa tion and a former president of Pfeiffer College, will address 119 candidates for graduation May 31 at the ll4th com mencement exercises. David Singletary, a rising sophomore from Waynesville, was named president of the 1970-71 Student Council in campus elections held May 12. Losers in the three-man race were Warren "Skeet” Smith and Joe Swedish. Tommy Plyler defeated Suz anne Hoagland for the posi tion of vice-president. Unopposed for seats on the Honor Council were Gary Sweet and Richard Whitley. Chris Martin was unchallenged for the office of business man ager of "The Circle.”
