Good Bread
The Trappists Monks of the Or
der of Strict Observance have a
history for baking delicious bread.
Their order does not permit them
to eat meat, fish or eggs so bread
is the main staple in their diet.
Housewives in North Carolina
will have an opportunity to buy
this famous bread called Monk’s
Bread from their local stores in
most of the cities throughout eas
tern and central Carolina within
the next few weeks.
The Monks have given permis
sion to various bakers around the
country to use their age-old recipe
to make their famous bread in
return for royalties on each loaf
sold. So the monks are making
dough both ways . . .
Fort Bragg—Mission
The Catholic Mission, scheduled
for 5 to 17 March 1961 at Fort
Bragg, North Carolina, will have
several score years of experience
in missionary work represented in
the four Oblate Fathers who will
conduct the mission. Their exper
ience represents many years abroad
and at home including both mis
sionary activities and retreats.
Father James V. Clancy, O.M.I.,
attended the Cathedral and Cani
sius College and Catholic Universi
ty, and has spent many years since
his ordination preaching missions
in this country. He was in the
service from 1944 to 1946 and dur
ing this period was on duty abroad.
Father Thomas Morrin, O.M.I.,
is a native of Boston Mass., and
was ordained at Catholic Universi
ty in Washington, D.C. He is cur
rently attached to the Oblate
House in Petersburg, Va., and has
preached at many military instal
lations through the years.
Father Bernard Clancy, O.M.I.,
began his missionary work in the
Phillipine Islands after his ordina
tion in 1941. During the war he
was interned in the prison camp
at St. Thomas and after his release
continued his activities at Cotaba
to. He has conducted missions in
all parts of the country since 1951.
Father Nelson Hamilton, O.M.I.,
like Father Clancy, has conducted
missions in the Phillipine Islands
during 1948 and 1949. Ordained in
1941 he was at one time editor
of the “Oblate World.” Since the
time in the Phillipines he has
preached missions in all parts of
the country.
The mission schedule for the wo
men will be from the 5th to the
11th of March and from the 12th
to the 17th for the men. Four
daily masses will be held with the
solemn benediction at the close of
each mission.
Baby sitting services will be
available without charge for the
people attending the missions.
Special missions will be held for
the children on the 11th of March
and for High School Students on
the 12th.
