Nuns Form Education Conference Three Congregations of the Sis ters Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, with Motherhouses in Monroe, Michigan; Immaculata, Pennsylvania; and Scranton, Penn sylvania have formed a new or ganization to be known as THE IM MACULATE HEART OF MARY EDUCATION CONFERENCE. The first meeting of the Execu tive Council of the Conference was ield at Our Lady of Grace Convent, Hanhasset, New York, August 24 !7. Representatives from all areas if education, college, secondary, md elementary, as well as Sister formation, drew up by-laws for the inference and set the theme' for he first biennial institute. The total enrollment this year is 90. Eleven new and part time instructors joined the Faculty this year. The class schedule for the first quarter went into effect September 10th. Prior to this date the new students participated in an Orientation Program which was a combination of academic and social events, including tours, a Tea, a Hootenanny and Introduction to School Policies. Sister Mary Elizabeth, Director of Education, announced that applications for next years class are now being received. Hindu Party Asks Ban on Eucharistic Congress NEW DELHI, India — (NC) — The official publication of India’s right-wing Hindu party has asked the Indian government to halt plans for the 38th International Eucharistic Congress opening in Bombay Nov. 28 in the interests of law and order. It said foreign Catholics are not welcome in India, where 98% of the population is non-Catholic. The front-page article appeared in The Organizer, a weekly maga zines of the Peoples’ League Party, a Hindu-oriented political group which in 1962 polled about 7.5 mil lion votes. In the past the party has opposed granting visas to Christian missionaries. Under a headline which warns of a “papal invasion in Novem ber,” the magazine declared; “In dia has no objection to Christ, but it has every objection to ‘Roman’ Catholics. India will accept only ‘Indian’ Catholics. Anything else High School in Virginia Bombed ARLINGTON, Va. — (NC) — A bomb explosion knocked out win dows and caused other damage to the Bishop Denis J. O’Connell High School here and the adjoin ing Christian Brothers’ residence the night before the school was to open for the fall term. The institution opens the 1964-65 school year with full registration. The President of Sacred Heart Junior College is Sister M. Stephen with Sister M. Christine as Aca demic Dean, Sister M. Celestine as Dean of Women and Sister M. Ber nard as Treasurer. Sister M. Helen is Librarian assisted by Sister M. Annette. For the 1964-65 Academic year Departments have been organized under Divisions as follows: The ology and Philosophy; Humanities; Science and Math; Social Sciences; and Community Services. Sister M. Celestine has been new ly appointed to the post of Dean of Women. Mrs. Nora Bridges of Bos tic will serve as hostess and will assist the Dean of Women. She has had previous experience as hostess for the Sigma Alpha Mu Fraterni ty at the Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, Ohio. Another new addition to the faculty is Mr. Joseph A. Biter of Loretto, Pa. who will head the So cial Sciences Division. He holds a Degree from the University of Mis souri. Mrs. Virginia H. Clemmer will teach a course in study skills. Mrs. Clemmer is from Gastonia and has held various positions in Psycholo gy and Education. Mrs. Clemmer is a Graduate of Indiana University. Pardo, Mrs. SISTER MART CELESTINE is the newly appointed Dean of Women at Sacred Heart Junior College in Belmont, N.C. She has been principal of St. Michael’s School, Gastonia, and of Sacred Heart Grade School, Belmont; and she has served for the past few years as Principal and Superior of Sacred Heart School in Cutchogue, L.I., New York. Sister holds a degree from Mount Mercy College, ' Pitts burgh, and has studied at West ern Carolina College. Robert Brooks, the last two named being additions to the faculty this year.
