Knights Prepare
For Third Annual
Catechism Quiz
Complete details and rules for
the third annual Knights of Colum
bus Catechism Contest, sponsored
by the North Carolina State Coun
cil, were made available for dis
tribution at the Mid-Year meeting
of the Council held at Holiday Inn
South, Greensboro, on Sunday,
January 24. All councils in the
state will have entrants.
This is the third year that the
State Council has sponsored this
event for 8th grade students. The
winners who will represent each of
the 15 Councils in the State, will
compete in the State finals to be
held on Sunday, April 4th at 1:30
p.m., at Our Lady of Lourdes
School, 2912 Anderson Drive, Ra
leigh.
The winner of the finals who
will be declared North Carolina
Champion, will be awarded a $50.00
Savings Bond or one week at Our
Lady of the Hills Camp. Second
place winner will receive a $25.00
government savings bond, and third
place winner will receive a $10.00
cash prize. The school which the
champion represents will also re
ceive the Sir Francis Heazel Trophy
for one year’s display at the School.
In addition, each State Contest en
trant will receive a handsome Par
ticipation Certificate.
Each of the Councils in the State
will award a prize to the winner
in their local contest, usually in
cash or a Savings Bond, in addi
tion to bearing the expenses for
the trip to Raleigh and back.
ROBERT J. HANSON, State
Youth Activity Chairman, is spear
heading this worthy project, and
any Grand Knight or Youth Ac
tivity Chairman of any Council who
was not at the Mid-Year meeting
in Greensboro, is urged to contact
Brother Hanson for further infor
mation. His address is 1011 Onslow
Drive, Greensboro.
North Carolina Council State
Deputy, Donald F. Cole, Asheville,
is anxious that all eighth grade
students be given the opportunity
to participate in this catechism con
test, and that they begin now to
study the approved catechism text
book if they desire to compete.
These textbooks are in the hands
of the Council Youth Activity
Chairman.
“We want to see all councils par
ticipate in this project,” said the
State Deputy to all Grand Knights.
“Remember also that the purpose
of the contest is to promote a
greater knowledge of our religion
and a more articulate laity. The
more who compete, the wider this
knowledge will be spread.”

$56 million in^65
to help the Carolinas grow..*
The Carolinas are moving ahead so rapidly on so many fronts
that an essential industry such as ours has to run pretty fast
to stay ahead.
To provide for your growing electrical needs, plus an ade
quate reserve, CP&L will be making capital expenditures of
$56,000,000 in 1965.
Part of this money will be invested in a new generating plant
at Roxboro. Only last year we dedicated our Asheville plant, •
but before it was finished construction was under way at the
Roxboro site. Part of our spending in 1965 will be to build
new lines to serve the ever-growing needs of homes and busi
nesses. Part will go to build 230,000 volt transmission lines that
will strengthen the interconnections between our system and
neighboring companies.
Where will the money come from? From the Company’s
earnings and from the savings of thousands of people who
invest in this business.
Who will benefit? Many people—for as the money is spent
through businesses, it will help to create jobs and wages.
But the main purpose is to provide you—in your home or on
your job—with the best possible electric service at reasonable
prices. This is one of the ways CP&L is helping to build a
Finer Carolina.
