ARRESTED IN RIGHTS DEMONSTRATION — Father William Hogan of St. Francis de Paula church was one of a large number of persons arrested for staging a sit-down in a Chicago street intersection as part of demonstrations against the rehiring of Chicago school superintendent Beniamin Willis. The demonstrators charge Willis impedes school integration. It was the second time in a little over two weeks that Father Hogan was arrested in connection with the demon strations. (NC Photos) _- _ Nobel Laureates Declare Press Misstated Petitions to Pontiff Sydney — (RNS) — Sir John Eccles said here recent press re ports stating that two groups of Nobel Prize winners had urged the Pope to reconsider the Church’s teaching on birth control were misleading. Sir John, who is professor of physiology at the John Curtain School of Medical Research (Can berra) and one of the signatories of one of the letters, told the Catholi" Weekly here that both documents were designed to stress the goal of family planning by re sponsible parenthood, but made no reference to the means of regulat ing both. O’Boyle of Washington said here the conditional baptism of Luci Baines Johnson did not imply in the officiating priest’s judgment that her Episcopal bap tism was invalid. In a statement issued from the Washington archdiocesan chancery office, the prelate expressed con fidence that the priest, Father James F. Montgomery, did not have any intention of reflecting on Episcopal tenets. The statement also said that Father Montgomery decided to baptize the President’s daughter, advised her of his decision and she agreed with it. Miss Johnson’s baptism was crit icized by Episcopal Bishop James A. Pike of California. He called the ceremony in St. Matthew’s ca thedral a “direct slap” at Episco pal baptismal rites administered to Luci as an infant. Others joined the criticism, including Dr. Fred erick A.
