A few were reelected, most are new. To all of them, the year ahead is a challenge. It can be made much easier for them and mean more to your Council only if they receive your full support. One last time we say to you — let them know you are behind them all the way by your ACTIVE SUPPQRT, SANTA MARIA COUNCIL 2329, WINSTON SAfcEM, is on the ball, having already -'appointed their Six-Point Committee Chairmen for the Fraternal Year, according to BILL ACH who is serving his last turn as PRC. The new committees, announced by Grand Knight ALPHONSE DAYE, follow: BROTHERS DON ALD DWIEL, HAROLD LUND and RICHARD TAMER were appointed PUBLIC RELATIONS, COUNCIL ACTIVITIES and MEMBERSHIP CHAIRMEN RESPECTIVELY. Brothers ROD NEY BOOKER, of ST. LEO’S PARISH, RALPH DEPPER SCHMIDT of OUR LADY OF MERCY; JOHN DAYE of OUR LADY OF FATIMA and WALTER BARON of ST. BENEDICT’S were chosen to represent the Council in their respective Parishes. Their duties are to seek Out prospective members in their par ishes, to see that Council everits are announced in their Church Bulletins and from the pulpit, and in general to act as liaison between Parish and Council. Brothers RAY ROHLFS, SR., RICHARD TAMER and GEORGE HRENKO, Council Trustees, have been appointed as a Committee’to approach and feel out the Winston Salem MA SONIC ORDER and B’Nai B’Rith and to enlist their aid in a common community project. RAY ROHLFS will head this com mittee.A Stag Outing for Council members and prospec tive members has been scheduled for THURSDAY EVENING, AUGUST 18, at Shelter No. 10, REYNOLDS PARK. Vigil Protests 'Reprimand' SACRAMENTO, Calif.—(NC)— A prayer vigil to protest a “repri mand” of a priest was held at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacra ment here by a group of Catholics involved in support of California grape strikers. The group had asked Bishop Alden J, Bell of Sacramento to meet with them in the cathedral to give cause for action taken against Father Eugene Lucas of Our Lady of Guadalupe church. Father Lucas had taken part in union activities related to the Del ano grape strike. KRISPY KREME DOUGHNUT COMPANY t “Americana Favorite Doughnut” CHARLOTTE WINSTON-SALEM GREENSBORO and RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA 29 Students Get Diplomas At Gibbons High Cardinal Gibbons High School of Raleigh held its graduation exer cises June 3 at Sacred Heart Cath edral. Msgr. John F. Roueche offered the graduation Mass and the ad dress was given by Father John Powers. Among the 29 graduates of the class of 66, there were several sen iors who were the recipients of scholarships from colleges around the country. Peter Synowiez, class president, letterman on the Gibbons’ basket ball team and member of the Na tional Honor Society, was award ed an NROTC scholarship to Vill anova University. Peter was also an alternate for an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis. He plgns to major in electrical engineering at Villanova. Robert Bode was the winner of a Morehead Scholarship to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he will major in political science. Robert, who also received an appointment to West Point, was the president of the Student Council at Gibbons this year and captain of the bas ketball team. The National Foundation award ed a March of Dimes Health Ca reers Award scholarship to Mary Lyn Field. Mary Lyn, recipient of the Bishop Waters Religion Medal, and member of the National Honor Society served as secretary of the Raleigh Youth Council during the 65-66 school year and will enter the Nursing School of the Univer sity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill this year. Among other seniors who were offered aid from various schools were: Wilbert Johnson, from How ard University; Margaret Stubble field, from College of Mount Saint Vincent; and Kathleen Field, from Dunbarton College and Duke Uni versity.
