RimmH State Public Rdatiam ChehrnM At the halfway point through December, 1966, in the Inter-Council Six-Point Competition Program, ASHEVILLE Council 1695 has first place with a point total of 4050. Second place in the “large” Coun cils is FR. THOMAS F. PRICE Council 2546, RALEIGH, with 3845 points, and third place goes to FR. WILLIAM O’BYRNE Council 3574, JACKSONVILLE, with 3200 points. MARIA IMMACULATA COUNCIL 3390, DURHAM, is far in the lead with 6075 points among the “small” Councils (in members), while WILSON Council 4660 is second with 3280 points and BISHOP HAFEY Council 4507, HIGH POINT is third with 3210. The competition covers Catholic, Council and Fraternal Activity Committees, Public Relations, Youth and State Deputy’s points. It is significant to note that Council 3390, although among the “small” Councils in the state, had a point total of 6075, the largest of any Council in the State. Also, in Public Relations activity, DURHAM was tops with 1310 points and JACKSONVILLE second with 1050. PIEDMONT COUNCIL 939, GREENSBORO has elected Brother BON HANSON as Deputy Grand Kight which leaves a vacancy among the Trustees to be filled. An “Open House” meeting will be held Monday, Feb. 13, and Clergy Night will be held on Thursday, Mar. 2. . . . The Council is making big plans for another of its famous Teenage Talent Shows. K. of C., Masons In Joint Meeting YORK, Pa. — (NC) — Knights of Columbus and Masons holding their first formal joint meeting in the diocese of Harrisburg were told here that “the spread and defense of a belief in God” is the major work in which they can cooperate. “The great bond” between the two organizations, Warren O’Don nell, past Pennsylvania state dep uty of the K. of C., said, “is our mutual belief in God and the par amount importance and eternal destiny of the human soul.” Other areas cited by O’Donnell as deserving united effort by Knights and Masons were the promotion of patriotism, fighting against pornography and working for racial justice. He also urged the two organi zations to remove from their tra dition, books and rituals “any and all words, phrases and prac tices that misrepresent the be liefs and practices of the other fraternal society or constitute an affront to its members.” “We have come,” he said, “to a great and promising age of ecumenism in religion. There will be a parade into the Carolinians Gain Honors At Abbey Three Catholic students from North Carolina have been elected to the Gamma Iota Chapter of Delta Epsilon Sigma national honor fraternity at Belmont Ab bey College, Belmont, N.C. They are William Gregory Car penter of Stanley; Robert Early, O.S.B., of Belmont Abbey, and Francis Daniel McQuilkin of Nor wood. Election to Delta Epsilon Sig ma is the recognition of outstand ing academic performance during the college career. It requires the student to be in the upper 10% of the class and have a scholastic average of B or better over a three-year period, which is a point ratio average of 2.25. Membership in the national honor society is the highest scholastic award to be gained by students at the Abbey.
