Vice President 1$ Received By Holy Father VATICAN CITY _ (NC) — Vice President Hubert H. Hum phrey of the United States was received in private audience by Pope Paul VI. The Pope and Vice President talked for a half hour, first dis cussing world peace and the war in Vietnam. The Vatican press bulletin said nhe two discussed “the always more intense study to hasten a truce and then negotiation to end the conflict in Vietnam.” The conversation was de scribed as cordial and Vice Pres ident Humphrey paid tribute to the Pope for his “untiring work” to promote peace and for his “decisive contribution” to the cause of peace made in his newest encyclical Populorum Progressio. Given Encyclical The Pope presented the Vice President with an autographed copy of the encyclical and also with a gold medal of his reign and a Vatican publication of the paintings of Raphael. The Vice President gave the Pope a col lection of his writings and a val uable table clock. The Pope seemed particularly pleased with the clock and said he would keep it on his desk in his library and hoped that it “might soon mark the awaited hour of peace.” Also in a private audience the Pope received Mrs. Humphrey and aides of the Vice President. The Pope gave Mrs. Humphrey a medal of the Blessed Mother and a gold rosary destined for >the Humphreys’ daughter. Villonovo U. Team Wins Drill Meet Washington — (NC) — Vil lanova University took first place in the National Cherry Blossom Festival ROTC Drill Team Competition here (April 7). Villanova is located in Penn sylvania, near Philadelphia, and staffed by the Augustinian Fa thers. The meet, held outdoors for the first time in its 12-year his tory, attracted 33 teams from all over the country. Both male and female teams competed for the highly-coveted honor of being t named top drill team in the U.S. Trophies in the shape of the Washington Monument were pre , sented at the conclusion of the meet. Mosaic at National Shrine EAST APSE MOSAIC is completed at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Washington, D.C. The 3,570 square-foot mosaic shows St. Joseph, the Defender of the Church and Model of Workingmen. The Church is represented by the ecumenical group at right, show ing Pope John XXIII presiding over some of the Fathers of Vatican Council II. In the group are Francis Cardinal Spellman, Sister Mary Luke, S.L., and lay observer James J. Norris. Cardinal Montini, now Pope Paul VI, is depicted as is the Danish Lutheran observer, Dr. Kris ten E. Skydsgaard. GREENSBORO, NORTH CAROLINA Students Present Original Movie At Belmont Abbey BELMONT — A 30-minute sound, color motion picture made by Belmont Abbey College students was presented in the Seventh Annual Abbey Revue Variety Show Thursday and Fri day evenings, April 13 and 14. The revue was staged in the Haid Gym on the Belmont Abbey campus. The film, entitled “Bathos,” is billed as a “satirical, spooky spoof.” The title itself indicates a mood first of seriousness which developes into a complete satire. In addition to the movie, the Abbey Revue offered an array of entertaining performances by Belmont Abbey _ and Sacred Heart students and from per sons in the surrounding com munity including Charlotte, Gas tonia and Belmont. Three Bands Three live bands in person, folk-rock singers, the Shadrack dancers, comedy singers and skits made bright, exciting and youthful contributions to the overall appeal of the show. In fact, only college students could have possibly written and staged the hilarious comedy skits. The Haid Gym on the Bel mont Abbey Campus was con verted into a beautiful theatre with flowing red and white cur tains, side stages, and extensive lighting and sound networks. The admission was set at $1.00 at the door with proceeds going to the Belmont Abbey Building Fund.
