The magazine reports on a nationwide canvass of opinion among Catholic diocesan school superintendents. It deals pri marily with the study of pres ent day development and the fu ture of the schools on the ele mentary and high school level. Here’s what’s happening in the Catholic schools, as the magazine reports. They are breaking away from Catholic isolation by seeking the opinions of others. There is improved communi cation in some dioceses between schools and parents. In 17 of the 25 largest Cath olic school systems, special edu cational programs have started for deprived children from Ne gro, Puerto Rican, Appalachian and Ozark neighborhoods. Laymen are taking over many diocesan school administrative posts. Many of the diocesan systems have adopted new religion text books based on the Scriptures and liturgy rather than on the old Baltimore catechism. All of the diocesan systems are teaching the “new math ematics.” ^ommencerm Exercises Announced BELMONT — There win] 120 candidates for degrees at | 39th annual commencement] ercises at Belmont Abbey lege May 23, it was annou by the Right Rev.
