Archbishop Praised
For His Courage
Atlanta — (NC) — “Archbish
op Paul j. Hallinan had the cour
age to take a bold step — that
necessary, decisive step needed to
bring the Church into the main
stream of contemporary life,” the
eulogist said.
“There may be some who say he
was ahead of his time. Perhaps he
was. But I think his genius was
that he saw time was running out
and he had the courage to take
that bold step. It is for this rea
son that he was a prophetic fig
ure. It is for this reason that his
influence long will be felt.”
The accolade came from Bishop
Joseph L. Bemardin, auxiliary to
Archbishop Hallinan since last

Traveling by bus, parishioners

They included a suburb, a
general hospital, a jail, the
House of Charity, Seton House, a
nursing home, a church, the
Chancery Office, a slum, the
State Capitol, a newspaper
building, public safety building,
the Nicollet Mall and an “art"
theater.

Rothschild of the Temple.
“He found it very easy and very
satisfying to work with those of
other faiths. This was because he
loved people. He always saw the
good in them and believed that
this goodness was a bond which
already united them. Beyond this,
he was convinced that unity was
Christ’s desire and that all men of
good will, under the inspiration
of the Holy Spirit, must sincerely
strive to prepare the way for it,”
Bishop Bernardin said.
The liturgy of the concelebrated
Mass stressed that Christian death
is the triumph and reward of the
Christian.
