'Catholic Hour' Changes Sponsors WASHINGTON — After 38 years in the field, the National Council of Catholic Men will end its responsibility as the producer of Catholic religious programming for the radio and television networks on Jan. 1. This responsibility has included the pro duction of The Catholic Hour. The National Catholic Office of Radio and Television will replace NCCM as the Catholic rep resentative in network broadcasting. NCORT was established by the bishops of the United States in 1965, and among its eventual purposes was the as sumption of this representative function with the mass media, in keeping with recommendations of Vatican Council II’s Decree on Social Communica tion. Lutheran-Catholic Talk Again GENEVA, Switzerland — “Substantial agree ment” between Lutherans and Catholics on the “task of the Church in the world” at a theological discussion in Sweden was reported here by the Lutheran World Federation. The talk, held at Bastad, Sweden, was the sec ond international Lutheran-Roman Catholic the ological conversation within the past year. Main lectures were given by two Roman Cath olic and two Lutheran scholars. The LWF reported the discussions following the lectures showed that “the agreements and differences of opinion did not necessarily coincide with confessional identifica tion." The principal Catholic lecturers were Fathers Walter Kasper and Johann Metz of the University of Muenster, Germany; the two Lutheran lecturers were Dr. Philip Heftier of the Lutheran School of Theology, Chicago, 111., and Dr. Per-Efic Persson of the University of Lund, Sweden. Theme of the Bastad meeting was “The World and the Church under the Gospel.” Participants noted that “both the emphasis on the laity and the focusing upon the churches’ task and responsibility in the world were beUeved to tiold promise for further ecumenical discussion.” Denies 'NCR' Report LOS ANGELES — (NC) — Francis Cardinal McIntyre of Los Angeles has expressed his whole hearted support for Cardinal O’Boyle of Washing ton in the dispute between him and 47 Washington priests over birth control. A spokesman for Cardinal McIntyre denied re ports that he had lodged an official complaint be fore the Administrative Committee against Auxil iary Bishop James P. Shannon of St. Paul and Minneapolis. The National Catholic Reporter said in a story that Cardinal McIntyre had reportedly accused Bish op Shannon of reflecting the heresy of “American ism” during a June NBC telecast on “The New American Catholic.” Bishop Shannon declined comment on the re port noting that the meetings of the Administra tive Committee were in executive session. Both he and Cardinal McIntyre are members of the com mittee. Priests Protest Oil Deal LIMA, Peru — Six priests staffing the Na tional Office of Social Information (ONIS) here have protested as “scandalous” an agreement be tween the government and a U.S. company on oil deposits at Talara. In an appeal to Peruvians the priests asked for moral pressure “for a total revision of our oil policies and the rescue of our northern oil deposits, according to the just interests of the country.” ONIS was established after two meetings last year of priests and laymen concerned with eco nomic, social and political problems of Peru. Louvain Univ. to Split LOUVAIN, Belgium — (NC) — The French speaking section of the Catholic University of Louvain, center of a controversy that caused the fall of the government of Prime Minister Paul Vanden Boeynants in February, will transfer out of this town over a period of 10 years at a cost of $340 million. The Louvain controversy has been a focal point for opposition between Belgium’s two linguistic groups, the Dutch-speaking Flemings and the French-speaking Walloons. The town of Louvain, where both sections of the university have been located, is on the Flemish side of the linguistic frontier established in 1963 to settle the country’s language issue. ‘Generation Gap’ Is Chaplain Chief Topic Dayton, Ohio — (NC) — The gap between American youth and their parents is not as broad as it sometimes appears on col lege campuses, the chief of U.S. Air Force chaplains said here. Msgr. (Maj. Gen.) Edwin R. Chess, said young people be lieve in God, appreciate parental values, and establish a rapport between themselves and their parents. Those in the service represent a broad cross section of American youth, he pointed out. Discussing the tasks of Air Force chaplains, who serve both airmen and their dependents, Msgr. Chess said the chaplain has pastoral problems “inherent in the system.” The married man who flies or maintains a plane finds himself on frequent mil itary duties which take him away from his family, he stated. The retention of a man in the service often depends on family adjustments to his military role, he said. BERRY COAL AND OIL COMPANY J. N.
