XCIII, No. 1 Oxford, North Carolina 27565, January, 1968 ONE DOLLAR A YEAR Dr. Charles Harrison Pugh, P.G.N., Dies Suddenly On December 28, 1967 Dr. Charles Harrison Pugh of Gas tonia, Past Grand Master of Ma sons in North Carolina received a visit from the kind messenger of the Supreme Grand Master of the celestial lodge above. Born July 10, 1888, near Laurel Springs in Ashe County, North Carolina, the son of John Reid Pu,fh and Mattie Hocking Pugh, Charles Harrison Pugh was one of six children, four boys and two girls. Educated in the Public Schools of Alleghany County, North Car olina; at Davidson College; and at North Carolina Medical College, located in Charlotte, North Caro lina. Licensed by the State Board of Medical Examiners the same year he graduated from North Carolina Medical College, since which time (19 10) he was a practicing physician, having located first in Wilkesboro and later in Stanley in Gaston County. Moved to Gas tonia on January 1, 1918, where he has since practiced his chosen pro- | fession. Past President, and for over twenty years Secretary, of the Gaston County Medical Society. Past President, and for eleven years Secretary, of the Seventh District Medical Society. During World War II, local examiner for Gaston County Draft Board No. 1, Selective Service. Former Chief of Staff of the Gaston Memorial Hospital, was a member of the medical staff of both Garrison General Hospital and Gaston County Negro Hospital, and was a member of the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Academy of General Practice. Actively engaged in the civic and religious life of Gastonia for many years. Member of Main Street Methodist Church, was General Superintendent of its Church School for more than twenty years, and was a member of the Com mission on Education and the Board of Trustees of that Church. July 10, 1888 - December 28, 1967 Open Installation James B.Jireen On Thursday evening, December 14th, with the full knowledge that Santa Claus was only ten days away, and that the next week or so would be filled with Christmas ac tivities of all kinds, the brethren of James B. Green I.odge No. 735 held an Emergent Communication in the Millbrook Masonic Temple for the purpose of installing their 1968 officers who had been elected two days earlier. In holding an open ceremony, the families and friends of the officers and members of the lodge filled the Temple seating capacity to the lim it, and all were in holiday mood. The several small children present behaved so unusually well that one would have thought they were cer tain Saint Nicholas was peering at them unseen from some nook or window, and their sparkling eyes added much to the occasion. The installation ceremony was performed by W.‘.Brother M. Eu gene White, the retiring Master, assisted by W.'.Bro. R. Gage Smith, P.M., (No. 218) as Marshal, and Brother Franklin V. Putney, Master-elect of Hiram No. 40, as Installing Chaplain. 1968 officers installed were; Alexander Holder, Jr., Master; Paul Etheridge, Jr., Senior War- iden; Herbert W. (“Bud”) Wheless, I Junior Warden; William C. Bea man, Treasurer; James S. Johnson, Jr., P.M., Secretary; Jack D. Moore, Senior Deacon; James C. Abrams, Junior Deacon; Harold L. Jones, Senior Steward; Law rence R. Davis, Junior Steward; J. C. Knowles, Chaplain, and George L. Stockstill, Tyler. Upon completion of the installa tion and brief remarks by the re tiring and incoming Masters, the guests went to the ground floor for refreshments, while the new officers closed the lodge. Several pictures of the new officers were made after closing the lodge.
