ONE DOLLAR A YEAR
Traveling With The
Grand Master
ROBERT N. BASS, JR.
Grand Master
On Tuesday, October 1, accom
panied by Worshipful Brother R.
Pete Dudley, we motored to China
Grove. Arriving at the Lodge Hall
about 6:16 p.m., we were met by
Worshipful Brother Zeb J. Bost, D.
D.G.M. for the 44th Masonic Dis
trict, who informed us that the Dis
trict Meeting would be held at the
high school auditorium and the ban
quet would be held in the cafeteria.
After enjoying a very delicious
meal we adjourned to the auditori
um where Eureka Lodge No. 283
was host for the District Meeting.
The guests and visiting brethren
were welcomed by Worshipful
Brother R. H. Hayth, Master of the
host lodge, who then proceeded
with the business for the evening.
There were 154 present for this
meeting, this being next to the larg
est attendance thus far in the
State. Brother Bost is certainly do
ing an outstanding job as Deputy
of the 44th Masonic District. I
want to congratulate him and the
brethren of this district for their
fine work in Masonry.
Also at this meeting it was my
happy privilege and honor to have

Top Sergeants are tough sol
diers, for duty swells in the breast
of devoted men. Brother Cecil Le
roy Mackay of Henderson Lodge
No. 229 has, through a colorful ca
reer been a Mason with a high
sense of duty to his nation, his God
and to his fellow man; and on the
night of October 29, 1968 his home
lodge accorded him honors befiting
such a long career of service.
His country called him early in
World War I, and in its service he
rose rapidly to the highest enlisted
rank. On a one-day leave he took
his Entered Apprentice degree in
Atlantic Lodge No. 238 in his
hometown of Moycock, N. C. Six
weeks later he was raised.
With an innate sense of devotion
and purpose he also served Hen
derson Lodge No. 229 in every pos
sible capacity; and the fruits of
his fraternal accuracy and discip
line has exhalted the wide, wide
world of Masonry. In 1946 he was
awarded the 25 year certificate of
Membership and in 1970 he shall
have completed fifty years of Ma
sonic fidelity and accomplishment.
Our beloved Grand Secretary,
Brother Charlie Harris, P.G.M.,
summed up these faithful years
with
“He has been completely unsel
fish in sharing his Masonic talents
with all with whom he came in
contact. In whatever capacity he
has served, he has added dignity to
duty and has raised our fraternity
to grander heights by his presence
and his wisdom. He has been a tre
mendous force for Masonry in his
two communities in which he has
held Masonic membership—a ver
itable giant among Masons—a mo
dest, diligent, generous, gentle and
a richly companionable man who
has given more than his share to
his communities, and has made
them richer for his interest. Of his
likes Will Shakespeare says ‘His
life was gentle; and the elements
so mixed in him that Nature might
stand up and say to all the world.
This was a man!’ ”

Salisbury DeMolay Holds Installation
It’s really hard to believe these
days, but once upon a time we
criticized the government for giv
ing away a dime package of gar
den seed. Now they give away the
taxpayer’s money to keep the
farmer from planting the seed.

ceremony at the Masonic Temple,

Spencer Chapter Order of DeMo

the occasion was the fact that
