Laughridge and Mrs. Laughridge. “.. .Happy shall he be that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us.” Ps. 137:8 Monday night, April 28 began at 7:00 o’clock in Shelby’s Hotel Charles Banquet room with a sumptuous buffet dinner served to three hundred or more guests, fol lowing the invocation by the Reve rend Brother Howard W. Haskell. Then followed the address of welcome by W.'.Brother Ronald M. Gantt, Master of Cleveland Lodge who introduced the Lodge’s most colorful personality W.'.Brother R. Pete Dudley, P.M. and Assistant Grand Secretary, as Master of Ceremonies. Brother Dudley got the program off to a fast start with his brist ling wit and affable humor, inti’o- ducing “The Generations”, a sing ing group of young ladies from the First Baptist Church who rendered several selections which were en thusiastically received. He recog nized our Masonic Widows, hon ored guests of the Lodge, each of whom had been presented a flower. He then presented our distin guished guests as follows: W.‘. Brother Troy G. Robbins, Assis tant Grand Chaplain; W.'.Brother A. D. Leon Gray, Assistant Grand Chaplain; W.’-Brother Leslie H. Garner, Grand Steward; R.’.W.'. Brother William M. Mims, Jr., Sr. Grand Warden; R.'.W.’.Brother Maurice A. Walsh, Deputy Grand Master; M-’.W.'.Brother W. Ed ward Burner, Past Grand Master; M-’-W.'.Brother Charles A. Harris, Past Grand Master, Grand Secre tary; and M.'.W.'.Brother William A. Hooks, Grand Master of Masons in North Carolina. After an interlude of music by the “Generations,” M-’-W-’-Brother Hooks, in a most impressive man ner, presented Fifty Year Awards and Medals to Brothers Dana H. Harris and Russell G. Laughridge, long time Secretary of Cleveland Lodge. Then the climax of the evening M.'.W.’.Brother Burrier was again recognized. He paid a glowing tri bute to Brother Laughridge for his long and faithful service to Cleve land Lodge and to Masonry in gen eral. He is now in his 47th year as Secretary. (See remarks of Brother Burrier, which follow.) He was closely followed by Bro, Luther B Hughes, with $45.00 These figures make Brother Shor an amiable, af fable and genial chairman, in full- and-fit form, salubrious, opulent and sagacious. Brother M. S. (“Jim”) Morgan. Master, stated that our monthly newsletter, “The Trestle Board”, would haye a plug for donations to Brother Shor’s committees. He also adyised that a local merchant, and friend of Brother Shor, had dona ted a bountiful supply of shoes and clothing to Oxford Orphanage (Bros.
