XCIV, NO. 11 Oxford, North Carolina 27565, November, 1969 ONE DOLLAR A YEAR Grand Master's Corner On Wednesday, September 10, Nell and I drove to Charlotte to attend the Fall Fiesta of the Charlotte Scottish Rite Bodies. This was another wonder ful meeting, as all of us who know Brother Ed Bur- WiLUAM A. Hooks rier have come to expect of any meeting arranged by him. There were more than 6,000 Scottish Rite Masons and their ladies pres ent, and it was evident that this delightful occa sion was enjoyed by everyone. This is an annual af fair, and I’m satisfied there is not an other meeting of its kind held in this country that could come close to it. On the following evening we held a District Meeting in Erwin where we had good attendance from the brethren in that area. Following this meeting our group traveled to Raleigh where we had a meeting of the Board of General Purposes the next day, in addition to meetings of the committees on Finance, Publication, and Wardens’ Training; as well as the Board of Custodians. That evening, many of us attended a dinner meeting of the Society of Rosicrucians, ■where we heard an inspiring talk de livered by Brother Bob Bass. In last month’s column I mentioned the work being done by the Special Committee on Area Education. This time I want to report on the Special Committee on Wardens’ Training, head ed by Brother Leon Gray. Brother Gray started out by asking each member to go into a “think tank” and outline his conception of the training needs for a Warden to be prepared to be Master of his Lodge. M. honored one of its prominent mem bers, Brother John Albert Hornaday, Past Master, on Tuesday October 21, 1969. The Worshipful Master designat ed this as John Albert Hornaday night in Henderson Lodge No. 229. Brother W. Barney Beasley presided at the cere mony. Brother Les B. Hornaday from Greensboro Lodge No. 76 Greensboro, N. C., presented to his brother, John, on behalf of the Grand Lodge of A. F. & A. M. of North Carolina, a fifty year ser vice award certificate and pin for faith ful and continuous service to Masonry. Brother Charles E. Crawley, Secre tary of the Lodge read to the lodge Brother Hornaday’s masonic history. Brothers T. Elliot Stegall, J. W. Rog ers, J. E. Hite, Abner B. Cobb and Don ald C. Seifert gave some high lights on the faithful service to Henderson Lodge No. 229 that Brother Hornaday had rendered over the past years. (Continued on Page Three) Cornerstone Laid For New Temple at Lucama On Saturda-'', October 18, 1969, at 2:30 p.m., an Emergent Communication of the Grand Lodge of North Carolina was held for the purpose of laying the cornerstone for the new Temple of Lu cama Lodge No. 527, A.
