Official Publication of The Grand Lodge of Ancient, Free & Accepted Masons of Forth Carolina VOL. XCV, No. 1 Oxford, North Carolina 27565, January, 1970 ONE DOLLAR A YEAR William A. Hooks Grand Master's Corner On Friday, November 28, I drove to Raleigh for a meeting of the Board of Directors of the Sudan Temple Widows Fund. It has been a real privilege for me to serve during the past year with the fine Masons on this Board, pre sided over by Bro ther Sam Toler of Rocky Mount, Past Potentate of Su dan Temple. The next morning I re turned to take part in the Shrine Pa rade, followed by a good Moslem Feast —fried chicken, no less—at the State Fair Grounds. Nell joined me at the hotel after lunch and we drove out to Carter Stadium to see the Shrine Football Game between N. C. State and Penn State. We were sorry that we were unable to take in more of the activities at this Sudan Temple Cere monial, but there was a good reason for it. Our daughter. Sue, and her husband, Hank Poisson, were preparing to move to a new house in Richmond, Virginia, and we were keeping our granddaugh ter, Doyle, with us for several days. On Wednesda3% December 3, I went over to Louisburg for the purpose of dedicating the Temple of Louisburg Lodge No. 413. I was met there by Bro thers Pete Dudley and Leon Gray, as well as Brother Fred Harding, Grand Tyler, and Mrs. Harding. Also present for this occasion were District Deputy Grand Masters, Brothers Robert A. Harris (21), W. Herman Spencer (22), and Jerome C. Raper (23). Brother Harris explained that he had made a special point to attend this meeting to make up for having missed his own District Meeting in Henderson, which was held while he was on his honeymoon. I was glad of the opportunity to meet the new bride and to wish both of them a wonderful future together. Wright, Sr. Brother Kahn then delivered a most in teresting talk on “The Secrets of Free masonry.” A NEW YARDSTICK “What Masonry brings is not an old doctrine, made new for us who are new in the world; she brings a yardstick by which we may measure, each of us our selves, and, measuring, learn to grow. It is these things we discover when we are brought to light; the square by which we measure that which we build; the compass by which we cir cumscribe our lives and conduct; the Book of the Law, by which we keep our feet upon the path marked out for all men. Every man should measure him self by his own standard.” —Exchange Brother M. W. Wright, Sr., left, Fallston Lodge No. 356 receives a 50-Year Veteran's Certificate from R.’.W.’.Berl M.
