Grand Master of Masons in North Carolina, 1971-72 Meet Your New GRAND MASTER William Watson Mims, Jr., the One Hundred Fifteenth Mason of the Old North State to be accorded the great honor of Most Worshipful Grand Mas ter of Masons, comes to that exalted Oriental Chair with as complete an ed ucation and understanding of the work ings of North Carolina Freemasonry as any of his predecessors, for since his appointment in 1963 as Grand Steward he has so diligently applied himself to be ready for his great responsibilities to the Craft, having probably attended more official meetings of the Grand Lodge than any other one brother. Most Worshipful Brother Mims, with “an attentive ear,” has served with dis tinction on every important Committee and Board of the Grand Lodge. His in timate knowledge of the Orphanage, the Home, Finance, Jurisprudence, Educa tion and the general working of the Board of General Purposes, combined with his close association with so many of his distinguished predecessors, makes of this dedicated brother one of the greatest assets of Tar Heel Freema sonry. A year from today, Freemasonry in North Carolina will be the greater because of having the services of Wil liam Watson Mims, Jr. In the bright and sunny city of Kiss immee in Florida a little more than fifty years ago, June of 1916, William W. Mims, Sr. and his lovely lady, Florence, were with five-year old daughter Mona, anxiously awaiting the arrival of a fam ily addition. The sun never shone bright er in Florida than on the 19th day of June when William W. proudly announ ced to all of his friends that a son and heir had arrived. Mona acclaimed to all the neighbors her joy at having a baby brother. Later, the happy Mims family embodied another boy, Harold, in 1923, and another girl, Barbara, in 1928.
