The Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, South ern Jurisdiction not only expands the Mason’s appreciation for and his understanding of Mas onry’s symbolisms and its allegorical teaching, it urges participation in patriotic, civic and religious endeavors. The Rite promotes good government, it supports the American system of free enterprise and abhors the collectivist form of totalitarian government, and it stands wholeheartedly behind the complete separation of church and state. Personal involvement in these things is the characteristic of a true Scottish Rite Mason. The Masonic leaders who have been so re cently honored by the Supreme Council, 33®, have demonstrated over a long period of time their devotion to the principles for which the Scottish Rite stands. Illustrious Henry C. Clausen, 33°, is Sover eign Grand Commander of the Supreme Coun cil, Southern Jurisdiction of the United States, and James G. Johnston, 33°, Past Grand Master of Masons in North Carolina, is Sov ereign Grand Inspector General in North Car olina. At the present time there are more than 22,000 Scottish Rite Masons in North Caro lina and nearly 600,000 Scottish Rite membeis in the Southern Jurisdiction.
