Appointed Grand Steward
E. Stansil Aldridge, Albemarle funeral di
rector, was named Grand Steward by newly-
elected Grand Master Nathaniel C. Dean on
April 18 and thus becomes the newest member
of the Grand Lodge line.
Aldridge, 40, is president and general man
ager of Stanly Funeral Home of Albemarle,
having been associated with that firm for the
past 20 years.
A member and Past Master of Stanly Lodge
348, he served as District Deputy Grand Mas
ter in 1965-66-67. In the Scottish Rite he is a
Knight Commander of the Court of Honour
and an Ambassador. He has served as Ambas
sador of Oasis Shrine Temple and as president
of Stanly County Shrine Club (was club’s
first “Shriner of the Year” in 1964). He is a
member of the Eastern Star, serves on the
Rainbow Advisory Board, and is a director of
Albemarle Masonic Temple, Inc.

this issue we have omitted some regular
features, have abbreviated most articles, and
have delayed publication of some items sub
mitted by lodges and individuals. We will
return to our regular format in June.

Truth Lodge on April 24
MONROE—'North Carolina’s 384th active
lodge began its labors here Tuesday night,
April 24 when Grand Master Nathaniel C.
Dean delivered his dispensation and the gavel
of authority to E. W. Treadaway, Master of
Truth Lodge (Under Dispensation). Other
officers of the new lodge are: Senior Warden
Charles W. Belk, Junior Warden Wiley K.
Helms, Treasurer Donald W. Richardson,
Secretary Joe B. Tucker, Senior Deacon
James W. Griffin, Junior Deacon David L.
Hargett, Jr., Stewards Bruce W. Snyder, Jr.
and Douglas S. Moore, Chaplain Allen B.
Keziah, Jr., and Tyler Donald D. Griffin.
Having called the meeting to order, the
Grand Master directed Home Superintendent
Troy Robbins to read the dispensation. As
Grand Secretary Charles A. Harris (PGM)
read the names of the officers they were in
vested with jewels and aprons at the altar by
acting Marshals Clegg W. Vaughn and A.
Boyd Keziah, Jr. The Grand Master then con
ducted the Ceremony of Institution and de
livered an oration.

RALEIGH—Some 1700 Tar Heel Masons at
tended the 186th annual communication of the
Grand Lodge here on April 17-18. They came
from all over North Carolina; Masters, War
dens, and proxy-holders, representing more
than 70,000 members of 383 lodges in 313
North Carolina cities, towns and communities.
There were District Deputies Grand Master,
District Deputies Grand Lecturer, and District
Education Chairmen; fifteen of the twenty
living Past Masters were here, and scores of
board, commission and committee members
were on hand. Visiting dignitaries came from
Grand Lodges in the United States and Canada.
Grand Master Berl M. Kahn and the other
Grand Lodge officers served dual roles as hosts
and performers; there were guests to be wel
comed and duties to be performed during most
of four days.
General Chairman A. C. “Jack” Honeycutt
called the session to order at 10 a.m. Tuesday,
April 17 in Memorial Auditorium, the Grand
Lodge officers were received, Grand Lodge was
formally opened, and the annual communication
was underway.
As always, this event signals the end of one
Masonic year and raises the curtain on the new
